I unscrewed all 18 bolts of the oil pan on my 92 mits mirage 121k miles. the **** thing won't come off. I tried breaking the seal with a flat screwdriver, a knife, even wrapped both of my hands around it and pulled a hard as I could and my 190 lbbody was dragged forward. I used a hammer to tap it on each end..nothing...this gasket is the original 12 year old pan gasket. there's so much black sludge from it, it's nasty. do I just need a block of wood, a hammer, and go to town with it? is there anything else I can do?

Usually a rubber mallet will "shock" the pan enough to break it loose and not damage the pan. I have used a really big pry bar on the corner of the pan to break the pan loose.

Check the new gasket to be sure you have all the bolts out, you would not be first guy to leave one in.

I like to use the the thinnest, most flexible putty knife I have and tap it between the pan and block with a rubber mallet.

looks like I need to get my hands on a rubber mallet. thanks for the advice fellas
