Oil HONDA 90 hp outboard

I need some education and suggestions from you pro's on this.

I have a 2005 Honda 90 outboard on my boat.

In the book Honda recommends and automotive detergent oil, SG or SH with the "starburst"

This rules out the MaxLife that I use in my van (SM, SL) and the Pennzoil Ultra that I use in my car (SM, SL, SJ). What is this "starburst"? I don't see one on either of these.

Am I understanding this correctly? Any suggestions what automotive oil meets those requirements?

SG and SH were the standard in 2005. The newer standard is SL SM. This is what you use. There is a "starburst" on both of your products. I have a 2004 135HP HONDA Outboard and it calls for 10W30. I believe the Honda brand oil is Mobil conventional.

Most oils have it.

Your Max Life should work fine in this application, in my opinion.

Thanks for the suggestion Brons2. I was actually thinking to use the Ultra.

Any disadvantages to the synthetic in this application? I am not concerned about the cost.

I would choose a HDEO oil of the proper viscosity. Nice engine.

I'm with Steve S I plan on using Rotella T5 in 10w30 this time in a Yammy F115

Why would you not go for T6?

Only because I found the T5 and it is 10w30 that the book calls for. T6 is great also.
