Oil from 2014 with 450 miles? Change?

I just picked up a new vehicle. It's a 1986 Camry with 96k miles (3 speed automatic). It's been garaged for the better part of the past few years. The oil was last changed in Sep of 2014 using a 10w-30 (76, synthetic-blend), and just a basic filter. The car has about 450 miles on it since then, likely local running about. It looks golden.

Should I change it? I drove the vehicle home an hour, runs nicely. What would you do?

If I don't change it immediately and drive for a week or two, am I risking anything?

Change it. Condensation among other things degrades the oil. This way you will know exactly what oil is in it. Right now, you don't.

Sounds like a great buy. Enjoy that Camry.

+1 Change it. Be a big spender, splurge. Treat your new to you vehicle to a start from scratch service. Change the coolant. Flush the brakes. Check the belt(s). Check the tires and brakes. Change the p/s fluid. Get a fresh start and then drive the rest of the miles left and enjoy the car.

That 76 synthetic blend is no slouch, but I'd change it, put on a quality filter and relax for 5K miles. I had a 1987 Camry 4 cylinder, 5 speed manual that the teenage son beat to death. It WAS a nice little ride.

I always change fluids immediately after a used vehicle purchase.

If you're worried about environmental concerns, shell out the $$ for a UOA and have the oil tested; then you'll know its condition for sure.

Personally, I wouldn't worry about it. How many cars in used lots sit there for years with the same oil in it until it gets purchased? To top it off, it's been sitting in a garage for the past few years in cali so I doubt condensation would be an issue. The overwhelming majority here will say change it out-after all you're here on a forum where people talk about oil all day so to say the least we are fanatics. The oil in it exceeds the specs designed for it in 1986 by a ton. The car is almost 30 yrs old with 96k and likely babied.

At the end of the day it's your choice and the oil change on it is probably relatively inexpensive if you do it yourself.

I'd drive it and make notes if anything needs fixed ... Then, when I'm fixing something, I'd change oil and filter. If nothing needs work, wait till fall

Nice ride. I'd drive it for a month, then change it. If it's low on oil by half a quart or more, I'd drop in some Rislone Engine Treatment as sort of a gradual cleaner/flush...

I'm usually a let it ride type and don't change it too early person. But in this case I WOULD change it.

Seeing the previous owner used a decent oil, it won't hut to leave it in but I would change it in the fall or at 5k miles, whichever comes first.

The oil does not know how to tell time, or read a calendar. This has been verified by a number of UOA's posted here through the years.

On a syn blend? Go 5000 miles with EASE. Keep that great oil in your engine, right where it belongs.
