hey guys im really needing and oil change soon and since winter is around the corner what oil is best for cold conditions? would i be ok with a conventional 10w30 in my dakota? and also does supertech and , Mobil 5000 meet the chrysler oil spec? thanks

As you noted, car oil has 2 numbers [like 5-30].
The first is for cold flow/thickness, and the second for hot flow/ thickness.
There is a saying around here:
"No oil is too thin at start up."
Always use the lowest first number . In other words, a 5-30 is better than a 10-30. A 0-30 is wonderful, but is going to be a full synthetic and more expensive.
A 5 first number is great for most of the USA.

I consider a 10-30 to be obsolete at this point.

so 5w30 would be better even tho the manufacturer recomends 10w30? also i shouldn't have a problem running synthetics in a higher mileage truck correct?

I use 5w30 in my dakota, year round and it works well. Even through 100 degree heat hauling cargo.

10w30 like another person said is obsolete.
