I just bought a Pressure Wave Pwr Washer w/ 5.5 HP Honda engine from Sam's Club. Has 2500PSI and 2.2GPM.

The unit came w/ a bottle of Honda 10/30 API SJ oil. Label says its for generators, power washers and other 4cycle engines.

Should I use the OEM oil?

I have a stash of the following that I could also use, all synthetics and API SL.

Quaker State 10/30 Syn
Valvoline Maxlife Syn 10/30
Mobil 1 SuperSyn 10w30

What do yall advise?

Unit will be used in South Texas heat.

How often should I change oil if I use OEM and how often if I go the synthetic route?

Thanks in advance.

HDEO oils or DELO would be a good idea.

I'm using SuperTech Diesel oil in my B&S 4.5bhp lawnmower engine with confidence.Afterall: there's more than enough cleaning and EP additives to keep these little engines running at their best.

The Honda Engine manual states under the maintenance schedule to change oil after the "first month or 5hrs of operation which ever comes first."

After that, "every season or 50 hrs (unless when used under heavy loads or in high ambient temperatures, change oil every 25 hrs)."

Under the Engine Oil Guide,

"Use 4stroke motor oil that meets or exceeds the requirements for API Service SH, SJ, or equivalent. SAE 10w30 is recommended for general use."

I would rather use what I have in my current stock of oils than have to go buy more, such as the HEDO suggested.

I'm using Mobil 1 5w30 API SL in my B&S 3.5 HP 15+yr old lawn mower. I don't mind replacing the old mower when it dies, but I don't want any troubles in my new pwr washer.

I want this Honda motor to run for freaking ever!

I am probably over analyzing the situation, but just wanted to make sure these little Honda engines don't have trouble with synthetics, or if by design, if they like better API SJ 4cycle small engine oil.

I used M1/Motomaster Full Synthetic 5W50 in my Honda GS series pressure washer with confidence and the engine simply luvs it. I'm planning on switching over to diesel oil this summer.

I believe that the additional cleaning ability + EP additives in HDEO/DELO oils or any good quality diesel oils should do these Hondas justice.

Just my thought on this subject.YMMV

The included bottle of API SJ oil was 20oz.

The oil pan holds 8-10 oz.

After the first 5 hours of use, I will drain and refill with the remaining OEM Honda oil.

After 5 more hours, I will drain again and fill with Valvoline Maxlife Synthetic 10-30.
