Honda Gas Mowers Still Available

Got the machine! Yeah, to that! Still in the box, but planning the unveiling today. The box label has the "green dot", suggesting the machine has had its camshaft replaced.

I have a jug of Mobil Delvac Extreme 10W-30 I'll be switching to, after the factory oil has outlived its usefulness. I may switch over to something heavier in the future, based on the good word of mouth in this thread.

Thanks for all the positive comments...:)
Congrats. Do the break-in for 5 hours, and switch to Delvac X 10W30. Your mower will live a long, happy life with it.

Sharp blades mulch much better. I change the blades every month. And the 14 ozs of oil.

You change the mower oil every month…..??

I agree sharp blades mulch better but how many times do you mow in a given month?

I mow 3-4 times a week in June and July. This includes my neighbors property. They’re both docs at Yale and work long hours.

The 15W40 oil cost is zero. The mower will be 17 years old this Spring.

Hopefully this helps you to understand my goal. 😉

Sounds like a nice Honda for the price!

What did you do with the commercial series Toro?

I really don't understand the blind love for these things with the oil burning and the cam problems. Guess you end up with an AL deck with a junk motor on top.

Congrats on the new mower! I have looked at that exact model several times and wanted to purchase. I am sure I will one day.

I am currently using a 1993 two stroke Lawn Boy, model 10520. A couple of years ago I bought it just to play with.... but it's been my main mower after getting it running. In the fall, the mulching of this thing is really outstanding with the fan blade thing that is sandwiched between the blade.

Lets see at pic of the new rig if you can!

How many hours are you mowing between your oil changes?

I bought one last year. It's been sitting a few months but i fired it up this past weekend for some lead bagging. Afterward I noticed the valve cover leaking. I knew it would happen. I have a new tube of Honda bond on hand but I'll need to tackle this repair soon. Mower has 11 hours on it.

I have a Honda (About 6 years old)and Toro Super Recycler with the Briggs Quantum. It is now about 12 Years old. Both nice overall machines. I prefer the Toro overall. I think it mulches a little bit better and the Briggs engine has more power. Which I notice when I let the grass get a bit long. I use them both. I change the oil once a year. SAE 30 in the Quantum and 10w-30 in the Honda. That is what they both spec. I am not going to over think it. I bet both of these engines will go 20 more years. These will very likely be my last mowers.

Slight threadjack - in your signature, did you get rid of the car, or Son #2??

Hilarious!! My mother promised me I would get "me" as a father. My middle kid (#2) is ME!!! I still have him but he was the rear of a 3 car smack-up and his inherited RAV4 is no longer. What a shame!! My aunt gave it to the responsible one (son#1) 2012 with 44k on it. He took it to about 85k. Pristine car! Garaged all its life in TX. And my animal smacked it up.

C'est la ve!

Good chance your machine had the camshaft changed, and when installing the valve cover, the flaw was created. Bummer. But an easy fix. I don't think there is a gasket. Just RTV.

12 year old Honda here, HRX216 with electric start I think.

Honestly I could treat it better but I treat it way better than most, I guess that’s not saying much.

Change the oil every couple years, make sure the air filter is decent. It runs great, has no leaks.

Still on the original battery although it’s getting pretty weak. Still starts it thou!

If you pull the valve cover off, like needs to be done for the camshaft recall, you HAVE to use the high heat Hondabond HT or else plain Jane RTV sealer will melt and leak oil all over the place. Also likely that the repair facility didn't take the utmost time and care when removing old sealer which causes leaks. Been through this many a time when someone brings me a GCV and says they mucked around under the valve cover and now it leaks. Also, seen many where the sealer was run OUTSIDE of the bolt holes on the flange vs. inside. Well duh.

Here is the stuff
