Honda Gas Mowers Still Available

If you pull the valve cover off, like needs to be done for the camshaft recall, you HAVE to use the high heat Hondabond HT or else plain Jane RTV sealer will melt and leak oil all over the place. Also likely that the repair facility didn't take the utmost time and care when removing old sealer which causes leaks. Been through this many a time when someone brings me a GCV and says they mucked around under the valve cover and now it leaks. Also, seen many where the sealer was run OUTSIDE of the bolt holes on the flange vs. inside. Well duh.

Here is the stuff

Most any engine specific "gasket replacement" RTV will work fine. Permatex Ultra, for example, which is much cheaper than that Hondabond HT.

One issue to be aware of is that when removing the cover, which, as we are discussing is glued down, the sheet metal flange is likely to get bent & distorted. It's fairly easy to straighten, though. Best straighten to the extent possible, or replace the cover after removing if it's beyond hope.

Never had luck with the Permatex Ultra on these covers. Used black, blue, and gray and they all leaked. Figured the HT was factory and worked every time, so never have looked back. Yeah, it's pricey. But everything with a Honda logo is .

Totally agree with cover straightness. Slightest distortion and it will leak too. Pitched a dozen covers that looked straight but had some little unseen bend. Oh well.

Hope you're enjoying it. I can only sit and wait until warm weather before I start another season of mowing. Bet she'll start on the first pull though ;).
