Hello everyone, i am new here (first post). Just wondering what you guys think i should be using for oil. I have a 1997 Pontiac Grand Am with the 2.4L 4 cylinder and a 5 speed tranny. I travel mostly short trips, about 10 miles to work one way. In the morning i just start the car and go, at work i let it run for about 10-20 minutes before driving it. Change the oil about every 3000-4000 miles. every so often i take it to the drag strip and bust out blazing fast 16 second runs

Right now im using mobil 1 5w30 with a mobil 1 filter. Is this good enough for what im using it for, or over kill? Any thoughts?

Your racing it hu, or at least abusing the motor a little? I'll ask the qustion first tht others may be thinking: you redline it on occasion? you racing it a lot?
how many miles? no oil leaks?

I probably go to the track about twice a year. Most of the time i drive normal, but every so often i lay into it. It has about 115,000 miles on it. I lost a quart between oil changes (but i think i have found the leak comming from the exhaust cam carrier cover)

K, well no high mileage oil will solve that problem. But a HM oil may not hurt either.
I would stick with a 10-30 or 10-40 when warm out. others will suggest brands

Use whatever grade/weight oil is recommended in the manual.

Running the engine for 20 minutes befor driving is a useless waste. If you have mobil 1 in the crakcase, you are fine to drive once you have oil pressure...usually 2 to 5 seconds. Just start and go from work too.
