My LT1 Corvette has a stroker engine and it was built with low tension oil rings, so I get allot of blow by,and i use a quart every 1000 miles. I think because of the low tension rings the oil gets black due to fuel contamination blowing by the oil rings. I may be wrong. But what oil would be good to handle the contamination. I plan on getting the oil analyzed as soon as my kit comes. But until then, what do you recommend.
BTW, my engine is a high compression, 11.1to1, 6500 rpm redline engine, with .018 ring gaps, and the engine does not have the traditional oil burn on start up which suggests cylinder heads valve guides are not leaking.

Rotella T Triple Protection, Delo 400 LE and other CJ-4 15w40 oils will handle the contamination and reduce oil consumption over many other oils. They might not give you the performance that a thinner high performance oil would give, though. But life on the street dictates survival for the engine, so the CJ-4 oils just might be our best high-performance street oils ever if the clearances, journal finishes, oriface sizes, drainbacks and oil pump delivery are good to go. Try them and let us know how the engine reacted.

I would try the Rotella T Synthetic 5W-40 over the conventional fleet duty oils. It should also deal well with the blow by as it is a diesel rated oil but should also be a little easier on the engine at start up thanks to the 5W rating as compared to a 15w40.

Sorry I posted this same question again. I wasnt getting any email notifications. Isnt there a automatic email notification set up?

My rings are JE piston rings, 10008 .018 gap, 1/16 1st and second ring, a 3/16 oil rings. Pistons, SRP forged 4.030. Heads are good, and engine doesn't smoke on start up.

Any diesel engine oil will be fine. 15w40 for your climate will work just fine, 5w40 isn't necessary. You could also use a heavier weight "racing" oil like Valvo VR1, but the price isn't justified IMO. You get the nearly the same performance from a diesel oil as a racing oil for less money.

Any autoparts store will carry some brand of diesel oil. OTC oils I'm fond of Delo, but Rotella, Castrol, Penz, etc. will due fine also in your application.

I thought that I replied to this...
Anyway, oil usage goes with low tension rings. Otherwise, they have little benefit. Builders shoot for oil usage of 1 qt. in 1-2000 miles.
There is a cost/downside to the decrease in friction, on the street.

I think you replied on my other topic where it was locked/closed before Ieven realized it was replied too.
Anyways, I get about 1000 miles, so it isnt bad for the low tension rings. But I want an oil that is good nonetheless, and the Rotella seems to be really well liked as an oil for my engine. I could go Rotella regular Conventional oil, if it does not matter. I think that I may be getting fuel in the oil too, even though my plugs are fine. I am installing a coelescing (spelling?) filter designed for seperating oil as I have blow by, and this will keep some of this contaminated oil out of the combustion chamber, which would normally go back past the rings to the pan.
But Rotella is a relatively cheap synthetic, and in the Corvette our oil temps are very high too.

with the amount of blowby contaminants going into the crankcase, the rich fuel metering of a stroked LT1 with a reprogrammed PCM and the heavy rod bearing loads of a high rpm stroker engine; I would use the Redline's 15w40 HDEO ester synthetic.

will withstand the high engine temps in a new Corvette where other oils will break down and leave you with goop in the crankcase...if you were driving it in Alaska with their yeararound temps of 50d F you might get by with a less rugged oil

the Redline will cost you now but save you a $12,000 engine later....a $80 oil change is nothing in a $60k boy toy

If it has an LT1 in it, it is NOT a "new" Vette (unless he swapped out the LS1/2, HIGHLY UNLIKELY).
But I agree with you on using RL for a high rev stroker LT1 though.
