Everbody is getting to hung up on 5W-20 vs 5w30... I am looking for something in the 9.0-10.0 cSt (100*C) range that is good for extended drains.
Amsoil does not make it.
Mobil does not make it.
Pennzoil hasnt released Specs on the new Platinum.
Castrol makes both 9.0 cSt 5W-20 and 9.7 cSt 5w30 Syntec.

IMHO 5/20 in a 4.6 will burn more oil than I like a 5w30 or 10/30 best.
That said I would not run ANY car out to 10K without a used oil analysis done on new and used oil.
I would prefer to use good SM oil at a 5K and forget about used oil analysis or any other additives and save you money for BEER or bourbon.

..and we of the north east do "thank you kindly" for taking some of the cold off of our hands and ligtening our heating bills a bit. We're more then happy to send this heat back to you when we have a surplus of it later on in the year.

It's a stinking mass-produced 5.4L Ford engine. There's probably 400,000 of them on the road. You live in North Alabama where it gets a whopping 8 degrees 2 nights a year, maybe every 24 months.
I don't have to look it up, I've lived it for 12 years.
Guess what? 5W20 (the oil that is spec'd for your vehicle) is gonna work just fine. I know someone that has 205,000 miles on their 1997 5.4L and it runs fine. Been used all over the Southeast and he has had it changed at Iffy Lube most of the time.
I assure you the fella that is driving a 2001 Ford Expedition in Milwaukee that has 120,000 miles on his couldn't care less about what kind of oil that goes in it. And it will run just fine through 200,000 miles. I imagine that Amsoil, Mobil 1 or Pennzoil Platinum will carry the engine way past 300k on 8k mile drains.
