Oil for 4G15t Mivec Engine

The Mitsubishi 4G15t Mivec Engine is in a colt ralliart I just purchased.

I can't find any info about the factory fill of this vehicle, after taking delivery from the dealer when i got it home, it did need to be topped up with around 1/2 a quart so i used

I have plenty of this 5w30 edge on hand, and plan on getting the factory fill out at around 1000km, what do you guys think?

I also have a lot of Mobil 1 ESP 5w30 on hand

and wanted to use this also, what do you guys think re using a 5w30 in this engine?

The Service book has a bias towards a 40 weight multigrade, however i feel more comfortable running a slightly thinner oil.

Congrats on the purchase!

40 weight is the best weight for Mitsubishi engines, particularly the 4G series and if you're considering extended drains.

Depending on where your vehicle was manufactured, it will have a different factory fill. Factory fill on Japanese-sourced Mitsubishi vehicles is ENEOS (Nippon-Mitsubishi Oil). Cannot comment on viscosity, but I have been told it's 15w40 for vehicles destined to the Middle East, and the same oil is used as service fill. I reckon it could be the same for Australia. Hope this helps.

If it fits the budget, I would recommend Mobil 1 0W-40 for your application.

where in the heck did you find Mobil 1 ESP 5w30??

based on the manual i would use Mobil 1 0w-40 as well. or a shell helix ultra 5w-40.

it is funny how 5w30s aren't recommended often in australia. my manual only has it for very cold conditions, otherwise 10w30 our thicker (right up to 20w-50).

It lists Mobil 1 5w30 as the preferred lubricant unless there is frequent use in ambient temps over 40C, then a 40 weight is recommended.

I do low km & short trips and I think a 30 weight Full Synthetic will be spot on.
If I was going to use a dino, then I would be going with a 40 weight.
