Going to change the oil in my moms 2012 Elantra this weekend. Taking out the 5w20 VWB and WIX filter. I am wanting to run the Fram Ultra filter, but I am undecided on the oil. The manual calls for Quaker State, but I imagine is just for monetary reasons.. So I am stuck between M1, PP or QSUD. Should I just go with whatever is cheaper?
7500 mile OCI. Car sees short trips daily with at least 2 60 mile round trips per week.

Haha it actually recommends Quaker State in the manual? Wow...

As far as oil I'd go with whatever is cheapest. All of those would be fine for that OCI.

Lol. IIRC it has a QS sticker inside the hood. I didn't pay much attention to it because I planned on using the 5 quarts of VWB we had laying around.

VSP 0w20 is a decent oil - runs very clean compared to QSUD or M1 when I ran it in the forester. I was trying different oils to quell a TC tensioner and concomitant chain racket on the new FB25 engine. Dang timing chains!

PP or QSUD (5W-20/30) will do just fine, I like using OEM oil filters though. Hyundai allows for a 30 weight if it makes you feel more comfortable, it may not be a bad idea since summer is just around the corner.

The 2012 didn't come with a DI engine, so fuel dilution shouldn't be a problem but then again short trips fall into the severe driving conditions category (3750 Maximum OCI).

It's your call, you can run it 7500 and get a UOA done.

If the car is under warranty I would just go to the dealer.
Hyundai around here offers cheap conventional oil changes with an OEM filter.
You then have the added comfort of the dealer paperwork trail in case of any issues that could compromise the 5yr 100,000 warranty, in Canada anyways.
If you are going to do the change yourself, go with QS, either QSAD or QSUD and an OEM filter, don't deviate from the oil weight required.

I ran PP 5w20 in our Elantra last oc but have just put in QSGB 5w20 this OCI. PQIA showed very good analysis of QSGB.

I have a 2010 Elantra which sees a mix of suburban driving conditions. For winter I like 5W20 and for summer I like 5W30 . For dino oil I like a 4500 mile OCI and for synthetic I like a 6500 mile OCI . What I personally find is a OCI much longer than this results in fuel dilution and darkening of oil becoming objectionable . Currently I am using the new PP 5W20 and 5W30 Pure Plus technology synthetic oils with OEM Hyundai filters (gret value / quality) - I have little winter weather to worry about (rust potential from excessive road salt) here in Georgia so I hope the engine gives me 250K miles and the body holds up for that length of mileage !

2012, no d.i.? This is the 145-148hp engine i assume...

Cheapest API/ILSAC meeting spec. Havoline, QSGB, MS5K. All between $12 and $14 at Walmart.

The car is a lease which will be up this September. A UOA would be nice, but there really isn't a point since this will probably be the last oil change I do. 5w30 sounds pretty good. Ill recheck the OM.

Ill have to see what is cheaper with the SOPUS fuel rebates and go from there.

*Looks like PurePlus it is.. not sure what the gallon limit though.
