Need to know some opinions on what oil to use. Truck has 5000 miles on it and I will be towing a 7000 lb camper in the spring. Dodge says use only 5w-20 and right now I am using Mobil 1 5w-20 which seems to be doing OK. Is oil too thin for towing and would I be better off using a thicker weight?

I have got a 2005 quad cab 1500 w/ the HEMI. I am running the Mobil 1 5w20. I have noticed more engine noise and clattering. I changed the oil at the intial miles of 1000. Then i have been on the 6months/6000mile rotation.I plan on sticking w/ the M1. Others on the site have commented that the rattling/noise is not the sign of a problem.
Truck sounds the same with the initial conventional oil and now with the Mobil 1. I have had the Hemi tick from new and it goes away when the engine warms up. Some say the noise is from the fuel injectors or the valve train. Either way I know owners who have ove 50K on their trucks and had this noise from new. Doesn't seem to be an issue.
I believe it is valve train noise,but talk about a running beast.
Don't those engines require 5w-20 because of the multiple displacement thing?
Mine does not have the mds and it clearly stated on the oil cap and in the manual to use only 5w-20
If you don't have the MDS, I wouldn't be afraid to use 5w30 or 10w30.
Thats what I was thinking also, but was wondering if it would give more protection to use a 10w30 or a 5w30? And also what would it do for the warranty.
I think those of us who own MDS Hemi's would be wise to follow the owners manual recommendatiion of 5w-20. I use the motorcraft semi-syn. I see rumors of mobil coming out with a semi-syn 5w-20, is this true? Or was it a 0w-20?

Think I will be sticking with the 5w-20. At least until the warranty expires. Looks like this is a good oil. Only concern I had was high temperature driving in the summer towing a heavy trailer.
Collie, Mobile 7500 comes in 5w-20, which is a blend.
