I was at Walmart picking up some oil for the RAM.. MC5W20, and I decided not to get the Mopar filter because it's $5+ for a renamed purolator.

I wanted to get the equivalent filter in motorcraft... the 820S looked the same, but I wasn't sure.
Then on supertech.. how come the ST2 and ST16 look EXACTLY the same?? I don't get it... is there a motorcraft cross-reference to the Mopar 090/ ST16? and why is the ST2 exactly the same?

I would guess that the of the 2 ST's, one is SAE and one is metric threaded? OR maybe different bypass pressures, or one has a bypass and the other doesn't.

Someone with more time/knowledge will chime in with exactly what the differences are. I've never used a Motorcraft on my Dakota, so I can't tell you what the cross-reference at least not for sure, but I'm under the impression that the MO-090 (5281090 in Mopar-ese I think) crosses to FL300? Don't quote me on that, though.

The 820s will not work, the threaded part is larger and that filter works on Duratec 3.0s, 4.6/5.4 V8s.

The ST16, xx16, PH16 are the equvalant to the Mopar in size. You can use the xx8A also to hold more oil and have more filter media. The threads are the same from 16 to 8A.

The Mopar has a thread end bypass when the Purolators for that application don't. So while it is made by Purolator, it is different.

Your welcome.

I have a 06 hemi and although that Mopar filter is $5, they are really a well built filter. They are better. I have used both and can tell the diffence in weight. I only use Purolator filters on my Hemi or the Mopar ones. I have a [censored] load of Premium plus filters to go though, but Id never use a SuperTech on it. Motorcraft is a Purolator too though.

+1 Like the Motorcraft FL 820S is made to MC specs, the Mopar is made to Mopar specs and both spec thread end bypass. Both are well made filters. Mopar is more expensive than the MC, but better in construction than the ST, IMO.
