Wix/Napa Gold is a very good filter. For 5k, even Napa Silver/Proselect will do.
AAP has the Havoline synthetic and P1 combo for $21.99, and Carquest has the CQ Red and Havoline syn for $19.99
I like the P1 because of the textured grip. Filters made in 2015 shouldn't tear because they redesigned it (look for date code FxxG...) the G signifies 2015.
Purolator Synthetic never tore because it's a different design altogether, and are often on sale at Kmart.
Hastings/Baldwin filters are excellent as well. No difference except the paint job. Baldwin is a snazzy red color, while Hastings uses a standard white can.
Rock Auto has a good clearance on oil filters, and if you're lucky you can find Wix-made Carqest filters on closeout. The old CQ Blue filters are the same as Wix/Napa Gold, while the old CQ Red is Napa Silver/Proselect/Pro-Tec/Microgard. (New filters you'd find at a CQ store are now made by Fram because they switched suppliers during the AAP takeover)
The CQ Blue will be listed as Wix 85348 or 83596 while the CQ Red is listed as Wix R85348 or R85396.
Another good filter is the Castrol SFX filters at filterandwipers.com for only $6.99 each. The same as M1, but with a cool green paint job.
