Currently running Amsoil in 4 Toyotas to 10k and need a filter that can handle the extended 10k OCI for the 2 with the 2.4L 4cyl.(was using Ea057). Here is a potential list based on my searches:
P1
M1
Fram Xtended Guard
Napa Gold

Would love to go with a larger filter at the current OEM is tiny.

Many Thanks!

Most your list would do that OCI sure, also i would recommend the RP filter or the Fleetguard StrataPore if your application as an offering.

PureOne has tons of media area and always looks perfect, but even the Wix with significantly less looks great at 7500. I wouldn't hesitate to go 10,000 on either if we did more highway.

How would I go about determining if Purolator, Mobil1 or Extended Guard have an larger size that would accomodate the 2.4L? I am concerned that the small size of these filters may have problems over time based on the load rate (assuming the recommended filters from the above manufacturers are the same size as OEM).

Do a sight search or check out wix web site and compare size specs.

Agree 100%

yes and no,,i surly wouldn't do 10k/year on a FRAM orange can or a ST(escrap) or NPS,to thin of media for my liking.

Yes. Any filter that meets or exceeds OEM spec's should be able to make 10k ..15k probably. People keep looking at some static mileage number. It's a mileage number over time. If the mileage is done in a compressed enough time frame, there's nothing to load the thing.

Nothing to load the thing (yes, that really means LESS loading incidents) is the same for the el cheapo vs. the very best filter that there is.

The GM OLM doesn't have a disclaimer stating "if your OLM starts heading to 13k ..go back in time and choose the best filter you could have". Nope. Any old filter will due since any old filter is going to work where the change out period is truly determined by fatigue and not some numb mileage number.

I agree. Even the lowly Proline oil filter I got for free after rebate from Pep Boys is used in my '94 LS400 for 15k/12mo.

I'd call Amsoil and ask them. Doesn't Amsoil sell their own line of filters?

Yes, but the EaO can't be assured to make its 25k distance so they aren't marketing them. The alternatives are good up to 7500 in use on these engines.

I would use any filter for 10k if the 10k was 9months or less.

If I was paranoid (you're allowed to be here at BITOG) I'd probably put the Extended Guard as the safest endurance filter out of the bunch since it has the lousiest filtration. Instead of loading up on smaller insolubles it will leave them in suspension. The important ones will still be taken out.

Why not the Bosch Distance Plus? It would be my choice if I were doing long OCIs and worried about dirt accumulation.

Well, he's not "worried" about dirt accumulation. He's worried about filter saturation. That's why he can't use an EaO.

but he may not be worried about that at all.

Under ANY OTHER SCENARIO there are MANY filters that are good for that distance. If the 10k is done in a timely fashion ..ANY filter is good for 10k. 15k even. It is the unique very dirty nature of these engines that makes this whole thing a cluster fister.

The last thing needed in this scenario is a filter that picks up even more insolubles to bring it to its holding capacity.

I agree. That would be similar to the P1 but made for distance.

Honda specifies that you can change the oil filter every other oil change. Their oil changes are 1 year or whatever the OLM recommends. And they don't say you have to run some specific filter. So in a Honda, depending on your driving conditions, you can run up to 2 years and 10K-20K+ on one filter. Any filter.
Different cars have engines that exert different stress on oil, for sure, but I wouldn't stress using any decent filter for 1 yr 10-15K miles no matter what the conditions are.
