I have 2 cars i need advice on. Lets start with the first: 2004 Honda Accord V6 6-speed manual with 95k miles. Modifications include a CAI and exhaust.
OCI is spec for 7500miles normal, and 3750miles severe. So far ive been using Pennzoil Ultra and a Purolator Classic filter every 3750miles.. Does not burn any. Current fill is Pennzoil Ultra with a Bosch D+ filter and I plan to go 7500 miles. My issue is running a Bosch D+ or Purolator Pureone. Some points i would like to make before you make a decision.
1. I autocross regularly in the summer, usually 40+ runs.
2. I read that the flow is restricted on a Pureone. Is this restrictive flow gonna hurt my engine at sustained high RPM? (I used the classic due to its $3 and has a high flow rate)
3. The price of D+ is 2x the Pureone
4. Should i maintain my 3750 OCI with the Classic filter. Or would i be safe to autocross with a 7500 OCI and a top tier filter?
5. Could i do a combination of the two above?
Onto my 2nd car. I picked up a 2002 Civic LX 5-speed with 170k miles on it. Owner said he changed the oil with conventional every 3-5k miles. I used this car to deliver pizzas regularly (college student lol) and for winter. The OCI is spec for 10k normal and 5k severe.
I filled it with Mobil 1 and a Purolator Classic filter, with the plan for 5000 mile OCI. Burns about a quart every 2000 miles, but recently hasnt been burning any (Could be the Mobil 1 + Honda equals burn). Im assuming this burn is due to the initial switch to synthetic. Could i do a Pennzoil Ultra with a Bosch D+ or Pureone for 10k miles with the delivery driving?
