I have been using either M1, Bosch distance +, and now K&N (got a deal on these) oil filters. Are these extra premium filters over kill for my 7500 mile or 8 month oil changes on my subaru's? I emailed purolator and they would only state a 3k/3mo service limit on the P1 filter. I do see they now have a synthetic filter out now.

DO you like your car and want to keep it? I buy P1s on Amazon for under five bucks delivered. Seems a small price to pay. You can blow five bucks at Starbucks or Drunkin Dognuts in a heartbeat.

I cut open a K&N and a P1 after 6k OCI on the Armada in my sig. Both were in excellent shape and apepared they could go much longer. So for me, in this application, I'm going to stick with P1 at about 35-40% savings for my filter.

I'm finally getting enough balls together to go to7k with Mobil 1 on that same truck and then do an analysis. I'm going to run that with the P1 and cut it open. Alow will ber getting analysis done on the oil.

I think the Purolator PureOne filter is a very good value; you get a lot of filter for your money. There are elements of more premium filters that you could say are "better", such as can wall thickness, media improvement, etc. But are they twice as good as a PureOne (as price would demand) for your OCI? Methinks not, but that's just my personal opinion.

My rule of thumb for my cars is :

Under 5K : Purolator Classic or CQ Red
5k~7.5k : P1 or CQ Blue
7.5k+ : Distance+ , M1 , K&N , Fram XG

Having said that , lately ive been using P1s alot since I can order 6 from AAP and get it down to $3 and change a filter.

I agree that there's more to the premium filters then just their dirt holding capacity. The higher quality filter media also filters better.

You can safely use the M1 and K&N for 2x 7,500 mile intervals, which will equal to the 15k miles that the filter is designed and rated for. This will help you squeeze out EVEN MORE value outta the filter.

I personally buy mine when they're on sale at AAP, purchase in bulk (5-10 filters) use a discount code and they come out to be like $6 each! At that price, i can afford to toss them every 3k miles but i still use them to the fullest and only trash em after they've gone through 15k worth of filtering. (This could be between two different engines as well).
