Oil + filter hoarders

My stash has been reduced to a more manageable size. I'm now planning to maintain enough for about a year.

1x VRP 5W-20 5qt for Honda CRV next oil change
3x PP 0W-20 5qt for Toyota Rav4 and Honda CRV
1x M1 TDT 5W-40 4qt for generators and lawn mower
4qt Valvoline 4T 10W-40 for motorcycles (Honda ST1300)
4qt Castrol 4T 10W-30 for motorcycles (Honda NC700x)

12x oil filters for Honda CRV and my two Honda motorcycles
1x oil filter for Toyota Rav4

Motorcycles will get changed in the spring and will use up existing stash of 4T oils.
5W-20 and 0W-20 will last through next summer, long enough to pick up a few more jugs on rebate next year.

Once the M1 TDT is used up, I'll simplify my stash and use motorcycle oil in the generators and lawn mower.

Always funny when something new/cool comes out (Valvoline R&P) or a great sale (recent HPL Black Friday for example) and the hoarders say they wish they didn't have this stash/need to get rid of some to make room. Yes, another reason to not hoard things.

The only time that I have ever had a huge stash was back in the days when German Castrol 0w30 was all the rage. I believe I had over 70L of it at one point. And I was glad to have it when they changed the formula. I had enough to last a couple more years at the time.

Nowadays I just buy enough oil for my next oil change

Bought 2 years ago this month for 45 cents a jug.

Some people get a shopping high from finding a deal, I think that is a big part of it. Gotta get that endorphin rush. To me trying new stuff adds fun to an otherwise monotonous task. But I’m not into shopping.

Same. I like to try things. And yes, I think folks just get excited b/c they get stuff for a killer deal.

A year ago I probably had 100 quarts - which is around 2 years use for me. All were bought on rebate or super clearance - like the Walmart pricing mistakes 15 quarts for $27.

I haven't bought any in a year. Not even a M1 rebate this year. How sad.

Hoping there are some deals in the new year.

My current stash stands at 338 quarts, down from an all-time high of 343. These photos are a partial representation, most of it is hidden in large cardboard boxes. strategically placed all over the garage. All purchased at deeply discounted prices, some with rebates. Estimate average price paid about ~$1.43 per quart.

Took advantage of the Toyota parts sale end of November...oil filters were only $3 with free shipping and no tax for my Tundra. Picked up a couple engine air filters for only $15 too.

Thursday night I was BUSY for 3 hours shopping around @ closing down AAP store in Texas

All this + 5 cases of mix 5W20 and 5W30!!

Only......................................81 cents a qt !!!


Thinking about just keeping this oil in my stash and selling off my hoard of Delo 400XLE 10W30 to my mechanic and 1 shop guy who DRINKS this stuff!!!




First time in 6 years of clearance oil hunting I had so much oil in the back of my suburban I popped a newish Goodyear ATS tire on the Texas tollway!!! They came out and swapped my spare for FREE!!


Learned my lesson and had 2 new LT10 ply tire installed @ Walmart on Friday for free thanks to black friday WM+ $50 deal and free road hazard on ALL new tires + free Paramount + Sonic 3 coming out in theaters this month!!

I had no need for more diesel I have enough "free" Delo/Fram diesel to last my fleet for 1 year lol. But at $4 a gallon it was a no-brainer lol
