The AC Delco spec'd filter is the PF52. That filter does not appear have an ADBV or bypass, but the WIX and Fram equivalents do.

Is this one of the GM engines that have the internal bypass/ ADBV set up? No big deal to me whatsoever, but I am just curious.

We ended up buying 2 WIX made MicroGards with the combo bypass design. My experience with them is pretty limited, but I am betting if the engine does indeed have the internal bypass setup, it will hardly be used on the filter.

A bit OT: My local Walmart didn't have an a Fram TG or Ultra in stock for this application. Just confirms my theory of not going to Walmart the day of your oil change because the filter you need could be out of stock.

Fram lookup shows PF52 equivalent to be PH3980, no bypass spec'd.

Wix shows 51036, also no bypass spec'd.

So 'if' PF52 is correct application, intended for GM with block bypass.

Edit. Having an adbv even where not originally spec'd would have no negative effect on function.

I like the FU. The delco pf52 and upf52 historically worked well, but I've had issues with start up knock after long sits with the ST and orange Frams....

Thank you for the heads up. I assumed if a filter had an ADBV, it would have the bypass as well and visa versa. After taking a closer look at Oreillys site, it says their WIX had an ADBV, but doesn't give bypass specs.

*According to their info for the MG filter, a bypass valve isn't included.

The PF52 or equivalent does indeed have a ADBV and GM has the by pass built in the block not the filter.

ADBV?

I think there(AC 52) all ecores now so in that type filter its hard to see it through the base plate.

Sorry. I didn't specify.

Yes ADBV. WM had the PF52. I couldn't see an ADBV but if it's hard to see, it could very well have had one.

Yea like I said the design of the ecore filter its hard to see the ADBV through the baseplate how its made, but its there.

I would avoid these filters WIX,NG would be a better choice.

Large "windows" in the plastic center tube can cause media blowout, esp. with moisture in the oil and/or cold starts with high viscosity oil.

I feel like that has been ameliorated, at least in the ACDelco version, with the addition of the button top bypass valve.
