I really like oversized filters. Increased flow is good!

That filter has a much bigger gasket. Cross referencing to Wix for gasket dimensions, it's ID is about the same as the 24458's gasket OD. Are you aware it's been shortened to 3.75 inches per Arvinmentor produce bulletin? It also shows as "discontinued, available until supply is consumed."

Life would be simpler if everyone used the same thread and gasket seat dimensions. It almost started off that way. Ford and Chrysler corp used the same filters at the start in 1957. Some Europeone and Japanese companies used the common 3/4-16 thread. Even Renault in the early 1960s.

Our favorite company was the one that started spin on oil filters.
First spin ons

Agreed on both counts.

The Wix xref number for L20253 is 51324. Mobil 1 is M1-207. Bosch is 3401.

My parent's Camry uses the 3/4-16 thread, and my old '77 Corolla did too.

Seems that Honda and Mazda stick with M20-1.5. I was happily surprised that the filter does work on my Mazda. I'm sad to see it discontinued by Purolator, so I'm hoping that Wix won't follow suit.

Ahhh, I found the bulletin you mention. So they're just changing the size, not discontinuing the L20253 filter. I still wish they would do the PureOne in this size.

I noticed the size change in the stores myself a couple weeks ago. The "newer looking" boxes had the smaller version. I went and wiped out the Pep Boys near me of the old filter. The Wix is still listed as bigger, so that's encouraging as well.

Hey Michael P! Hows it going? I'm almost positive I sold you some MX-6 GT parts from either probetalk or mx6.com. This was like 4 years ago!

Michael,

Are you currently using the PL24458 on the Honda Odyssey? I remember that Purolator filter # for wife's old 1989 Accord. What other brands have you used to experiment on the Honda?

Hello John in the ATL -

Yes, I'm running a PL24458 right now on our '03 Odyssey. This is the first oversize filter I've tried (and the first RedLine oil change for it, was M1 5W-30 before), seems to be doing fine. We're taking our second long trip on this oil change tomorrow.

I have a few L20253s so I will see if the gasket seals on it for the next Odyssey oil change. If not, I also have the next PL24458 on hand.

BTW, I'm in Kennesaw.

Hello the_oil_dealer -

It probably was me. I'm still driving that car, and I still love it. It will be so hard to give her up when the time finally comes, but that time doesn't seem to be soon. Still zero rust on her, engine is running great (as well as ever - in the first AutoRx clean phase right now) at 195K, and still on the original clutch.

I'd like to do a few more performance mods - not too much, maybe a T-bird turbo and Walbro fuel pump. Maximum reliability is the primary thing, because we can't swing two concurrent car payments!

Still driving your 6? Or was yours the one that was totaled?

I have only used the NAPA Gold (Wix) 1334 filter on the Odyssey (two changes). Actually, I changed the oil on Thursday to beat the rain. I went with the Motorcraft 5w-20 and Molakule Brew of Schaeffer's #132 and Lube Control. I would consider the Bosch filter from Autozone but I cannot remember the filter #.

Are you running the Redline 5w-20 or 5w-30, and how long are you going to run the interval?

I am in East Cobb near Wheeler High School.

Hi again John -

It is RedLine 5W-20. Got it at the Advance Auto on Baker Road in Acworth. I'll probably take this one 5K (my standard inverval), though 6K is a possiblity. Just so easy to remember to change it every 5K.

I do plan to get a UOA on the 2nd RedLine change. I don't think it's fair to test an oil on the first change.

We're next to Baker Elem. on Baker Road, off the Wade Green exit.

Still somewhat
