Inetrchangeable filters? 2004 honda Pilot vs. CRV/

Im about to help a friend DIY her 2004 pilot oil change this weekend.

I looked up the ol filter for the Pilot, and it seems that originally it was a different filter than other Honda cars, but has been recently changed to the xxxxxxPLM-A02 filter, which is the same filter as the CRV, Element, etc.

However, aftermarket filter makers (purolator, Mobil 1, bosch etc) still have different filter numbers for the Pilot compared to the CRV, Element etc.

So are a lot of these filters interchangeable? Will an aftermarket that fits a CRV/Element also fit the Pilot? (i.e. I have plenty of ones that fit the CRV/Element)

I'm sure that they are. It's a 20Mx1.5 thread filter with (probably) a sub 2.9" can (maybe 2.6x).

Plug the various numbers into Wix and see if there's some distinction in bypass valve setting. If length appears to be the only distinction, then swap freely.

Wix, itself, spec's the same 51356 for all three models that you mentioned for the 2004 model year.

Yeah, okay.

It seems that Wix, Amsoil, and Honda all have the same filter number for the Pilot, CRV and Element. However, purolator is the only one that has different filters for the Pilot vs. the others.

I am making a presumtion that the two different purolators should be interchangeable then.

Can you give me the numbers ..just to save me the application detail time? I can then run them through a few different engines to see what the distinctions are, if any, aside from length.

Oh, Bosch 3323, Wix 51356, Honda A02 is listed for pilot, CRV, and Element...

however, Purolator has L14610 listed for CRV and Element, while L14459 listed for the Pilot.

They appear generic across the different manufacturers. That is, aside from size (slight gasket differences and can diameter and length) there's no distinct bypass valve pressure rating. Some foreign engines are very specific (either high or low). These do not appear to be.

All Honda vehicles have the same thread size, and they all take the PLM filter except the S2000 (and I believe the NSX) which takes the PCX filter. The PCX filter is a larger diameter filter designed for higher flow rates. It will fit on most Honda vehicles, since the gasket diameter is very close. I used the PCX filter on a Civic I used to have. It doesn't fit on the Acrua RDX because the can diameter is too large.

The Honda PLM filter fits on the S2000 as well, but is not recommended.

As far as I know the 1356 and 1334 should be interchangeable.. while the 1356 Wix filter offers better beta ratios. The 1334 is what is recommended for my Acura but I really want to try the 1356 (Pilot filter) and see what happens.
