Last time I received a dented filter from RockAuto they sent another one quickly, no questions asked. They didn't ask for the dented filter back. I kept it to cut open!
 
A ton of bad advice in this thread. If the filter is dented and it fails in some way the filter manufacturer won't warranty your engine. The filter can flexes a small amount every time the engine is started and is shut off. One that has a dent or crease can possibly fail in that area. So always use one that has no dents.

must be somewhat common from RA as I recv'd a dented filter(worse than this pictured) as well. they need to pkg them better imo. I do give RA credit for fast replacement however...
