oil filter construction details

OK, people know all about the common things like black rubber or silicone ADBV; metal or cardboard end caps; ,synthetic media vs enhanced cellulose .

But how important are some of the minor construction details:

1) coiled spring vs stamped metal
2) pleat seam held by a metal strip or glue
3) the media held by wire gauze
 
1, 2 and 3 are fine if done right and get the job done. Haven't really seen any obvious benifits of one design over the other. Number 3 is required for full synthetic media, not needed for cellulous or blended media.
 
Usually the construction does not fail. I'm more interested in the performance of the media. How fine does it filter? How much can it hold and how restrictive is it?
Not much information available on these subjects.
 
I was looking at a youtube on the Subaru filter and most of the aftermarket filters did not have a pressure relief of the 23 PSI that Subaru specifies. They are 10 PSI to 15 PSI. So how can they be listed as proper replacements for the Subaru filter? Maybe if one digs deep enough we would find the Subaru spec to be 10 PSI to 25 PSI with the desired being 23 PSI. (I have no idea if that is true however).

Would, say, FRAM spec a filter for a Subaru with the lower by-pass setting if it would blow up the engine ... ?

NO. There are a bunch of theories as to why Subaru has the higher spec, but none seem to be verified. On non-turbo cars, it doesn't seem to matter. On turbo cars, some were saying that a fine screen filter in the turbo oil line was prone to clogging in poorly maintained engines, and the higher by-pass was to minimize by-pass events that could possibly quicken the clogging of the screen, and shorten the turbo life.

Louvers are important also, mainly because so many filters today have improperly located louver holes that block too much flow.

So many do? I haven't seen any since that early few shown on here. Is it still happening?
