Cut open a (used) Land Rover ERR3340 filter yesterday. It is made in the UK, and is used on pre '99 Tdi diesels, and all the pre '04 pushrod V8's.
The can is 110mm long, 3/4-19 thread, 93.5mm in diameter (95.3mm at the roll crimp)
The base plate has 6 inlet holes, 6.5mm/1/4" in diameter, with a PCD of approx. 48mm.
The centre tube is rolled and crimped perforated steel, with 117 4mm holes, 34 mm in diameter.
The media is a thin (0.5mm/0.020"), heavily pressed and embossed cellulose with circular and elongated dimples and heavily embossed at the fold line to enable a very tight fold/pleat. The pleat height is 25mm, the media overall width is 85mm, with the effective width being 76mm as the pleat ends are very neatly glued together !
There are no media end caps of any description or material.
There are 56 pleats. There are two annular grooves in the outer can, one just behind the base plate, the other 25mm from the base plate, 1.5mm deep to keep the media centred in the can.
The embossed dimples are obviously to keep some space between the glued together pleats. The outer edge of the pleats are glued to the outer can/base plate at the base plate end. The inlet holes feed past the pleats, the media goes almost to the outer ID of the can. The inner portion of the ADBV seals the inner section of the media from the centre tube. There is no glue in this area to prevent by-pass, only the seal of the ADBV!.
The other end is no less interesting. The pleats are again glued to each other and free in the can, with the inner part of the pleats glued to the centre tube and a full width end cap (to centre the assembly), of a top hat section, with the top hat bent away from the media and with 11 holes in it to feed the by-pass valve (which is at the base of the centre tube). The by-pass valve uses a simple leaf type spring, giving a 'clicker' arrangement, being either opened or closed. There is no spring of any description in the end of the can.
A very interesting filter, with a pretty good media face area. What its beta numbers and capacity are,
