Oil darkening very quickly: dump it?

It seems that our Accent also turns all oils dark early. Not a biggie. Place a drop of it on the back of a business card and let it soak in. You'll see its probably not nearly as dark as you think.

I`ve been changing my own oil for 45 years, and I`ve NEVER seen any oil that wasn`t black when dumped !
Always done 3000 oci

when I had my 2002 ranger 4.0L it would change just about any oil to black in 1000 miles. It bothered me at first but I got used to it.

and I used 100% syn in it..

stuff like Mobil 1 0w40, 5w40, Rotella T Synthetic 5w40, the m1 was used exclusively for over 70000 miles.

I then used PP once and it didnt darken until about 2k.


as was mentioned it does not really mean the oil is good or bad.

I'd be more worried about oil that has that milk shake look to it. That would indicate a moisture problem could be a coolant leak or just very short trip use. Either way I'd check it out. JMO

Checked the oil again today. Level is good. No milkiness or solids of any kind visible. Car is really too new to think that there is a whole lot of cleaning going on since this is the first oil in it since the factory fill was dumped. My Hondas do not darken the oil this quickly and I have used Castrol in them in the past as well. Must be a Hyundai thing. Anyway, oil will stay in for the full duration. We'll see what color it is by then.

You may want to re-consider a 5w30 or 0w30 for winter over the 20w. I had a 07 Rio SX 5-door wagon (same wimpy motor) that spun it's rod bearing right off the dealer lot, same thing happened to our current Forester. Both the vehicles had 5w-20 in the crankcase as FF. I would not run 20wt in anything that isnt spec'd for 20wt in europe and asia. Its a time bomb proven to me over and over and over again, first hand. BTW very nice chassis on that Rio. Be great with a nice 1.8L turbo motor.
