Oil Cooler Sizing Advice Help

The headers basically wrap completely around the water/oil cooler. I'm going to get them coated (the wagner are also stainless steel), but I'm worried about the effect of such a heat source in close proximity to the heat exchanger.

Think it'll still be ok? My paranoidia level is rising rapidly..now I'm even looking at getting an accusump too. Dam the track...why must the vixen cost so much money!

Well, good question ..but it will be no worse then the heat infused with the filter sitting right there as well. I think the air gap is enough for your needs.

Although coating the headers will help ..why not coat or wrap the cooler in that "header wrap" material/tape?? I'm unsure of the effectiveness of the stuff ..but it couldn't hurt.

Perhaps finding a small piece of aluminum exterior wrap for industrial insulation could be formed into a heat sink.
 
I was going to wrap some reflection heat wrap around the lines going in/out of the cooler...I guess wrapping the cooler as well would work, don't know about space issues though. I'm definitely planning on jet-hoting the headers...plus their stainless steel, which helps a bit.

Of course I can't afford titanium! We can't have everything

Btw check this out. From a 5F increase in coolant temp (over the tstat's 195F range), look what happens to the power output.

5F more temp, 10% timing retard, 10 whp loss. If it bumps another 10 degrees, you lose 20 whp! Insanity since the retarding starts at a simple 5F higher temps...when the fans don't even kick on till 208F and 225F respectively (low and high speed).

Can't you swap around some wires and/or relays and have the high speed be the only mode that it runs in?

After your rad upgrade ..I'd get that fan controller that I showed you earlier.

Have you reasearched whether the PCM can be flashed to change out the "on" temp for the fan??

Working on that. The fan controller is interlinked with at least EIGHT other car sensors, so merely fiddling with some resistors isn't going to work. Stupid CAN systems.

Working on it. Radiators are built to order, so I've got another week or so. Just got my coilovers on though

CAN System. They've been trying to build a flasher for them since 2002. If it was OBD-II, we'd have no issue. But don't worry, everyone else will be moaning and groaning about the can bus architecture, as all new vehicles have to have it by 2008. So get prepared to join the fun!
