Oil Change

Looks like it is time to change the oil in the garage queen (1991 Nissan 300zx Twin-Turbo). The car has not been cranked in 4.5 monmths. I am going to change the oil, however, I was wondering is there any advantages either way to just draining it before driving, or driving it and then changing immediately after? I figure, most of the oil has drained back to the oil pan anyway

The RP HPS 10w40 only has aapproxiamtely 500 miles on it, but it has been in the vehicle 7.5 months now.

I always like to get the engine up to temp. than change the oil right after. Flushes the contaminates better and comes out faster, seems to drain better.

You would have a heck of a dry start doing an oil change now. Drive it first. Actually, leave the current oil in there until the two year mark.

Take it on a short spin (to normal operating temp).. then drain.
Hot oil drains better and you want the particulates in suspension in the oil.
Otherwise, your taking a chance to have quite a bit of 'schtuff' left behind to mix with your new oil.

I agree, there is really no need to change the oil. Take it out for a good drive and save some time and money. JMO

Car is out of warranty. The oil is practically brand new. No point in changing it. If you are very concerned, try to take a sample and do an oil analysis. Bet it will come back as a virgin oil analysis..

Don't change the oil, it's a complete waste. It will go two years easily.

Have to ask, why have a car if you're just gonna let it sit and rot? Cars were meant to be driven, get it out and drive it some!

The oil should be changed at LEAST every year.

I would start and run it first since you will probably get a lot of blow by initially. Then I would change it.

I agree, I do need to start driving it more which was actually my plan. I know I am probably doing more harm just letting it sit then driving reguarly. Plan was to drive on the weekends. Just never seemed t work out that way Car now has 54K miles.

I have been doing 6 month oil changes. Possibly could go up to a year. I do not think I could do 2 year intervals.

If you're only doing 1k miles a year on a synthetic, I would run that oil at least 2 years. If it was me, I'd probably go at least 3 years.

We've had a few long oil changes here at BITOG.

5 year 9000 mile Porsche oil change ... Porsche UOA ... TBN was 5.9, lots of life left in oil.

Patman has done 2 consecutive 2 year OCI's using Castrol Synthetic (GC) on his Golf …

UOA … 2 years 7600 miles, oil was fine.

UOA … 2 years 7300 miles, oil still had lots of life left in it (TBN 5.33).

I think you could run 2 years easy with that RP.
