Oil change screwup

As everyone else has said, a tiny bit of gear lube in a large volume of motor oil won't cause any harm.
Gear lube is acidic, but the TBN of the motor oil will neutralize that with no problems.

Adding a little 80w90 gear lube to your 20-weight motor oil isn't going to make the viscosity go nitro on you. 90-weight gear lube is about the same viscosity as 30-weight motor oil. Gear lube also has a lot of antiwear additive, so it won't hurt things in that respect. The only negative I can think of is gear lube's complete lack of acid neutralizing ability (TBN) to deal with products of combustion. But since you only added ~1 teaspoon to your oil, it won't have a significant effect.

OK, enough of this silliness!

You know the "bad stuff" is in there.

Now we know the "bad stuff" is in there.

How long do you think it will be before you are unable to sleep at night wondering what possible harm that "bad stuff" could be doing?

Look at your posts! The amount of the contamination has grown from a tablespoon to 3-5 ounces! My god, man, do you really even know how much could possibly be in there?

Change the oil and filter. Now. Do not pass Go, do not collect $200.

Trust me, you will feel better. I know I will.

By now, it could be gallons, and the crank might be immersed.

Seriously though, even with the revised estimate it's still a 50 to 1 dilution. This makes any effects on viscosity or TBN effectively moot.

Ok you might have ended up with some absolutely tiny amounts of EP additives that aren't usually in engine oil, but hey you could always add a few drops of purple dye and call it synerlec.

Good job!

Now we'll both rest easy.
