seen folks cheepened out by buying fresh/new car brake light bulbs, put in the burnt one, and return to Walmart for a full refund.

I knew a guy that worked at Home Depot and he said people would buy 10 cans of paint (use half of each paint can and fill the cans with water) then return all 10 cans back to the store for a full refund. How ghetto can some people be ?

I'm guessing the store manager has sniffing rights to those???

I was at Lowe's not too long ago, shopping for a hole saw. I saw a set of hole saws in a taped-together package, with one large hole saw that had been obviously used. The paint was worn off and everything. Now, 1) WHY would they accept such a return, and 2) WHO would buy this item?

I think the better question is what combination of brain cells put it back on the shelf for someone else to buy?

Actually have had two legit tool returns. First was at Lowes. I bought an electric impact gun to help with some suspension work. It wasn't strong enough so I returned it and told them. Full refund. Second, was a Harbor Freight Brake Caliper tool that didn't fit my caliper. Returned, full refund. Most stores offer 14 or 30 day return. They can't really argue with if the tool didn't do the job you needed it.

No doubt people abuse this like crazy. Also crazy they would put it right back on the shelf!

I cant beleive they are doing it, and its a girl and after that she call 2 more peoples come sniff lol, but yea I saw use oil filter cover with oil in brand new box at walmart.

I've opened Mobil 1 oil filters to visually see how they look and feel and have found other brand filters inside, mostly Fram. So it would appear that people swap out a Mobil 1 filter and put them into a cheaper filter box.

Couole day ago at Meijer,I've seen swapped filters. Regular Ocod was in the box which supposed to have Tough Guard, and P1 in D+ box. Hmmm, there is camera hanging not so far away...

Well, I did shopped alongside with my wifey in some of these shops (just regular stuff, amongst some other minor things), curiously, there's a large sign on the change room door and the cashier till saying that " due to heath reasons, langeries, etc. cannot be refunded nor exchanged"...so, out of sheer curiousity (as I normally would), I ask the cashier how often (or have they ever) do customers attempt to return soiled panties, they gave me a surprised look and said: "... it's way more often than you would imagine..."

I guess people are cheep these days, more so than ever when especially when the economy hits the can..

Havoline and Delo 400 in the 5 quart and 1 gallon containers also have a foil seal.

I usually buy a dozen oil filters at a time, mail-order, and they have plastic seals on their bottoms.

Hard to believe it's worth the effort to wash and return an oil filter. A more plausible scenario: I could see someone buying the wrong size filter, putting it on, starting the car and dumping the oil on the ground, then trying an exchange.

This is the case with almost a third of the oil filter boxes I open to check (WHY I do it!) at Pep Boyz.

The K&N, and Mobil 1 boxes usually have the low(est) line Purolators, or less in them.

Then she did the sniff test and then had two other employees perform the sniff test for confirmation. The whole event was methodical as if by a protocol. I thought it was funny, so I asked "Do people really return used oil filters?" She said, "Yes, we actually get alot of them. Some people are so cheap that they try to return used oil filters by cleaning them up real good, so we have to sniff them to be sure. We also have people trying to return used oil in new motor oil containers." I said, "Wow!, that's unbelievable"

Anyway, just wanted to pass this along. Apparently, there are some rotten folks out there performing sacrilege on our motor oil.
Let's take 'em out back and beat the Heck out of 'em Pard.

I work at Lowe's and can tell you that lot's people are scum and scam the store daily. The store allows it because the scum will yell and scream if they are "challanged" about their return. To quiet them "managers" will say take it back and give them the full return amount. It's epidemic any more. People are such liers and cheats. On my LAST day at Lowe's I want to work the return desk with a baseball bat. Just kidding, but it's a fantasy any way.

OK I can easily believe that (not like I didn't know how scummy people can be), but to put it back on the shelf for resale?

I hate those foil seals! Sorry, but I think the chance of dropping a piece in the oil during removal is a lot higher than getting some used oil...

I feel like I'm doing brain surgery when removing it. This seems like another plus to buying my oil from a dealer! Less chance of sketchy returns, and the Toyota oil has the plastic ring.

I bet people returning used oil filters just hose them out with water. Ouch...

I had to return a jug of T6 to Walmart because of this. The oil didn't appear used, but when I got it home the snap ring seal had already been broken and from what I could tell some of the oil was missing. If it was intentional, whomever did it did a very good job, as you couldn't tell visually the snap ring wasn't intact unless you tried to remove the cap.

I wasn't going to chance dumping $20 worth of questionable oil into a $25k car so, I returned it to Walmart but was up front about it when I brought it back. I explained the situation and that I wasn't about to dump an unknown oil into my car. No problems. They exchanged it without batting an eye and put a defective sticker on the old jug.
