Oil change centers RIP OFF

A friend of mine got tired of being told he needed a new air filter every time he went to a fast lube outlet. So he installed a new one immediately before going to have his oil changed.

As usual, they told him he needed a new air filter. He replied, "that's funny, I just installed a new one five miles ago!"

Priceless. I don't venture those places and I will not let my friends or family venture those places, either. If they need something, call me instead.

But there will always be those who will pay a lot more for just a little bit more product. Always been that way and as long as people are willing to pay, it always will be that way.

Agreed. It's the free market system at work. There are more people willing to pay the premium than there are oil change places willing to discount the service. The oil change places may as well capitalize on the DIFM (di-it-for-me) crowd who perceive a synthetic oil change as being worth $50 more.

The rest of us will do the math and either use regular oil or DIY.

One time I was very sick so I decided I would bring it to Jiffy lube just once!!!! I usually use synthetic so I brought my own oil in. So basically I paid less than conventional oil price because they gave me $7 discount for oil..
