Oil and Transmission fluid recommendations

1. 08 Mini Cooper S (Turbo)
2. 47k Miles
3. SAE grade synthetic (5w-40 & 5w30 classes)
4. Dayton, Ohio
5. I drive about 20-30 miles a day (city and highway) and at times I push it a bit.
6. It will be garaged during the winter months.
7. No problems with the car. I have had the timing chain tensioner replaced under warranty.

I was leaning towards trying Royal Purple. I use Mobil 1 in our Ford 500 atm and have no issues with it. I was also reading a lot about AMSOIL. Thanks for any assistance in choosing the correct oil for my Mini.

IMO Royal Purple is overpriced for what you get. You would be fine running Valvoline Synpower 5w40 or Quaker State Ultimate Durability 5w40. Synpower can be found at Walmart and QS is at certain Big Lots. By the way,

If you have a turbo, use a full synthetic engine oil - it is smart.

Consider Amsoil or Redline for superb modern trans lubes.
Some factory lubes are pretty good nowadays.
But we don't know if you have an auto or a stick, or what the factory recommends.

Probably any nice oil will be just fine. IMO, RP and AMSOIL are a bit expensive, but in the end it's your money. Since you already use Mobil 1 why not stick with it? If not, Valvoline, Pennzoil, Quaker State, Castrol, all good choices. You may have a great deal of difficulty telling the difference between oils in this engine. All will probably work great.

Thanks everyone for the assistance and welcomes.gif. I am sorry I forgot to mention I have a manual transmission. I have never had any issues with Mobil 1. A friend of mine was saying he noticed the RP helping his car run cooler but he drives a 98 Cobra so I was unsure if it was so much better than Mobil 1. Long ago I thought oil was oil but in recent years I have been using full synthetics in the newer cars I own. Mobil 1 seems to be a fine oil IMO.
