I have a 1998 Honda Civic with the D16Y7.

Right now, I am using Castrol GTX 10w-30 with whatever I can find at Crappy tire filters.
I change it every 5000km.

Recently, I am thinking about switching to synthetic oil and better Oil filters and change it at around 9-10k km.

The engine calls for Wix 51334, but it is tiny, does anyone know a larger filter that will work with the engine ?

Also, what synthetic blend do you guys recommend ?

I tried Mobil 1 before, (before they changed the fomula), and I did not notice any difference, therefore switch back to normal dino juices.

My engine is stock, and the I mostly do city driving and sometimes Autocrosses.

Thanks for the help.

Barf1, unfortunatley, there is only a larger filter, not longer filter for your Honda. The M1-105 is the larger filter for the car, but the bypass pressures are different. I would stick with the recommended filter for your car. Wix is a high quality filter, I am sure that it will meet all of your needs. Have you checked out the NTPOG oil filter study? There is alot of good information about the filters for your car. Check it out:

Thanks for the site. Interesting, I should get a case of Japan OEM oil filters when I am in HK this summer.

Might not be true..... I purchased a Wix 51626 today (3.812" tall and 3.663 o.d.) The gasket is 1/3 to 1/2" in diameter larger so I'm not sure if it will mate up to my Type R oil cooler without a leak or not. See my post here on Honda-Tech... http://www.honda-tech.com/zerothread?id=421586

Mobil 1 is the best over-the-counter oil you can get. Schaeffer's 7000 series synthetic blends offer just about the same protection and performance at lower cost. There's a rep in B.C.
