I'm preparing to take a sample from my wife's relatively new (2024 with 20K miles) Mazda CX-90 in a few weeks when I do an OCI. I have not done a UOA before so I know Blackstone seems to be one of the "not recommended" labs, so I found Lake Jr's SPEEDiagnostic lab and also Oil Analyzer lab - any recommendations/comments between those two? I'm not necessarily concerned with savings a few bucks one way or another but just want to go with the company that does the best analysis and provides the clearest info.

I haven't used SPEED but I really like OAI. Samples come back within a week and you can check it online. I also think they're more accurate than B/S Labs by far.
How much ? Thanks

I get them from Amsoil (they use OAI/Horizon). I get the non-postage paid kits and use Pirate Ship to send them on the cheap. $26+tax for the kits ($22 if you’re preferred). Free shipping if you buy $100 of kits in one order.

Not sure if this is allowed but I think @Pablo is still a site rep. Could probably buy the kits through him in appreciation of his shenanigans on here.

I thought Speed uses OAl and he provides the commentary.

Oil Analyzers (Amsoil) uses Polaris Laboratories in Indianapolis IN. as their lab. Polaris accuracy is very good, with all of the certifications that go with it. I can't say much about Speed diagnostics other than they are more expensive than most and they seem to have a prettier more colorful print-out. You could order directly from Polaris Labs and possibly save a little money with results accuracy reigning supreme. Blackstone Labs is another option, but they don't have all of the certifications of Polaris Labs, if that matters to you. If you have a Caterpillar shop close to you, they do decent oil analysis too. Polaris Labs phone # is 317-808-3750.

My reason for using Speediagnostix probably doesn't apply to the majority of people on BITOG. I'm getting old and my handwriting is beyond atrocious. The sample submission form for OA (and BS) is a small piece of paper where you fill in the blanks and/or check boxes. Speediagnostix has an online form which identifies each sample by its Sample ID#. My ability to legibly fill out an online form is limited only by my typing skills, which aren't quite at the level of atrocious, yet.

Previously, I bought three kits from Amsoil to send OA virgin samples. My wife filled out the forms and I mailed each sample separately. All forms were clearly identified as virgin samples with the brands and viscosities noted. They still ended up comparing two of the samples against each other, highlighting in red some fields that were too far apart from the "previous" sample.

I just did the first oil change on the new Pilot (494 miles) and tonight filling out the online forms to submit a virgin sample of Amsoil SS 0w-20 for VOA and a mid-stream catch of the OEM oil for UOA. I realize there are quite a few recent VOAs for the Amsoil SS 0w-20, but it's convenient having all the samples on the same results' reports. I'll change again at around 5k miles and send in another UOA to see how the engine is "breaking in".

Good point. I filled out all of info on my OAI submission and some fields were still left blank on the report or “please submit additional info” noted.

I’ll use them for the last longer drain with HPL on my wife’s SUV since they did the original submission. For my car, I may switch to Speed near the end of my 4th VRP drain/fill.
