Oil analysis , high oxygen levels ?

I collected some used oil , about 60 % gas engine oil , the rest is diesel eng. oil .
I ran this from the containers it came in through a pump into an old dual by pass filter set up , into 55 gal. drum , then ran through a centrifuge for about 4 hours , to make sure it was clean , ran it as fuel [ 70-80% #2 diesel / 20-30% of this filtered oil ] , in a 94 dodge with a 5.9 Cummins , the Cummins is running Amsoil 15w40 marine , and the eng. has a Amsoil dual by pass filter set up in it .
The oil analysis , after 14,000 miles , came back with high o2 levels [ about 30 as I remember ] .
Not sure if it was all the filtering , but wanted to see if anybody would venture a idea on high o2 , no other results had this , but all others were Rotella 15w40 .

OK, let's see if we can sort this out. You need to clarify things so we can have a better understanding of your situation.

See if we have this correct?

A. You took used PCMO and HDD, filtered and centrifuged it?

B. You then mixed this with #2 diesel at a ratio of approx. 75% diesel and 25% used oil?

C. The HDD in the engine is Amsoil 15W40 and you are using a bypass filter. Great oil BTW. I think it's one of Amsoil's best. You have used RT 15W40 in the past?

D. Are you referring to the engine oil's analysis in which the oxidation was 30%? WHat was it in a previous analysis?

E. Also, what was the previous oil analysis with straight diesel?

Please list the analysis, the lab, and any other data.
 
I do think you mean oxidation. "30" is kinda meaningless without comparing it to the new oil. I'm thinking the new oil might be 20 or something. It's how much the oil changes with time that is important. Ask the lab to run a virgin sample of AME 15w40.
 
If your analysis was done by OAI testing I posted a couple of VOA's on AME for comparison about 6 months ago. It's some good stuff.

A&B - not sure on the abbreviation's , PCMO ?
I was stating that I had collected some used oil [ used in gas engine , about 60% , then some of my diesel used oil ] , ran through the filters & centrifuge to clean , before putting in fuel tank , mixed with #2 diesel .
C - yes .
D - with a millage of [ about 800 -1,200 miles on the UMO mix , out of the total 14,000 miles ] running the used oil stated above as fuel mix .
Then after the 14,000 miles I changed oil & filters in the engine , and had the engine oil analysis [ not the fuel mix ] .
E - All earlier analysis were good , 2 done by Blackstone Labs & Cummins , the last one with the high o2 was also Cummins .
I get to the internet by wifi / coffee shops and have not yet got a copy of the analysis scanned & in my laptop to show but will make a point of doing that .
It did not make sense to me that the used oil would make for high o2 levels & low TBN , about 6.?? .

You are correct. You can't store on the BITOG server. You'll need to just type it in OR have a server host type company "hold" the file for you.
 
So it would seem that no one has an idea on the high o2-30 & low TBN-6.2 [ Amsoil TBN new 12 ] ?

Did you read my response on oxidation?

TBN of 6.2 at 14,000-15,000 miles does not sound low.

Then there are issues with using Amsoil ?
It seems to me that using an extended oil change with a synthetic oil & a by pass oil system is a waste of money then , my results with Rotella non syn. 15w40 , were the same , not excess of any metals , soot , water or anything measured .
The only difference was that with the Rotella the recommended running the oil longer [ 2-3 thousand more miles ] , and the Amsoil should be changed .
I did change the oil & filters , and will do an other analysis to double check .
The older Blackstone Labs analysis did not give any o2 results , but the Cummins reports do , the last Rotella results said 3.3 for o2/OX , this report 30 they labeled as S=severe .

Please acknowledge that you understand what I wrote about your oxidation number. It's meaningless as a stand alone number. You need to find the virgin number. The Amsoil could be close to 30 to start - you cannot compare the absolute numbers to each other from oil to oil. Only the change and rate of change.

I have not seen your analysis so how can I or anyone comment?

The only thing we have is you were burning some used oil. (Maybe has an effect, can't say without seeing the analysis)
 
This site will not allow me to add attachments , all results are normal except o2 & TBN .
What info do you need , I can answer with what is on the results from Cummins ?
To reply to you ox , the last report with Rotella was 3.3 with 10,000 miles , this report is 30 - they label as severe .
I do not like to assume but when sending in samples & I tell them what oil , They assume virgin oils that they know , they know both Rotella & Amsoil .
