I have been reading alot of post, as far as Amsoil is concerned seem's alot of people do not like it why? also, what would be say the best oil for the money, as far as synthetics are concerned. according to oil analysis or which company practices the best and most sound science to formulating there oils.

I wouldn't say that alot of people do not like it. There are quite a few here who beleive that Amsoil Series 2000 is overpriced, but you'll find that almost everybody agrees that the regular Amsoil (5w30, 10w-30) is a great product.

I would say that the best synth oil for the money would be (in no particular order):

1. Amsoil
2. Schaeffer's Series 7000 (Contains more PAO than most Castrol Syntecs)
3. Mobil 1
4. German Castrol (we think this is a PAO or better)

I'm sure I missed a few, but somebody else will pick up where I left off.

I think that if you did a poll, most would concede that Amsoil lubricants are excellent. You would probably also find that most would acknowledge that their multi-level marketing and associated hype is a real turnoff. I, for one, have had my very best used oil analyses results with Amsoil 10W-30 ATM. It’s a fantastic product.

In my view, there are some very good over the counter alternative now that are encroaching on (and may be exceeding) the quality/performance of Amsoil, not to mention that they are a much better value. The M1 and Castrol GC are prime examples. When you can purchase Mobil 1 at Pepboys for half off (like right now) I’m not going to spend $6 per quart for ATM when I can get the M1 for $2.50 per quart.

I have not used Amsoil products directly so my opinion comes from an observer status only.

There is plenty of evidence, both anecdotal and in UOA's, that supports the position that Amsoil makes very good products.

My observation with some of the motor oils is that they are not API certified, and I think this is important. Thus, if you need an API certified oil (e.g., for warranty purposes) the best oil from Amsoil is out.

My major complaint is with the company itself and it's adoption of multi-level marketing: inherent in all multi-level marketing is the wide sales base at the consumer level, with a corresponding high number of individual marketers. This translates into lack of real profits for those folks. Instead, the profits are funneled up the MLM ladder, to those who, at least to this old cowboy, didn't do much.

It just seems to me that the people who do the actual work of selling it should reap the profits. And, under all MLM, this doesn't happen.

Having said that, if I needed a high mileage oil that did not need an API cert, I would strongly consider Amsoil.

There is nothing wrong with Amsoil. It is an excellent product. However, many people are turned off by the people who sell the product. The board member here who sell the product are the exception. In addition, some people are turned off by the fact that it sometimes thickens due to oxidation. It should be point out that this does not seem to have affect the UOA results.

The best oil for the money without a doubt is GC.

Royal Purple 5w30 has shown similiar protection as Castrol GC 0W-30 in my 01 5.3L truck. I believe Esso XD-3 0W-30 and 0W-40 synthetic is another top of the line motor oil and is priced less than any synthetic if you buy direct from Esso....approx $4.25/liter in Canada.

I agree Conmck, 0-30 and 0-40 XD3 are great syn oils at great value. The 0-30 at $3.71 litre is said to rival G.C., sister oil sort of speak, I read in here that XD3 0-30 is a heavy 30 oil like the G.C. 0-30 and close in specs. the 0-40 is 4.25 litre.

I personally like the fact that I can go to the Amsoil website and order what I want. Since I live in the sticks, any autoparts store is 20 or 30 minutes away, and I don't care to do business with Wal-Mart

(they are usually one quart short of what I need anyway).

I can order Amsoil on a Sunday, and it's here by Wednesday or Thursday. And if you figure it out, you can buy Amsoil almost as cheap as M1 at the autoparts store, especially in bulk quantities (which I like to do anyway).

Not sure your question but I don't think a lot of people dislike Amsoil. True their are some real haters, but not many. As one or a few have pointed out some oils really do work better in some cars.....as best we can tell by the UOA's.

If you link to Amsoil via my website, then at least as a BiTOG sponsor I can get some credit to pay my advertising dues to support THIS site!!!!

Edit kept goofing the link up, sorry.

I think the best oil for the money is the Schaeffer 7000 series of premium synthetic blend oils. I got 12,000 miles in my gasoline truck engine with only one quart of make-up oil over that time...less new oil than the Mobil 1 test.

I've used Amsoil products. I think they're very good, over priced and over hyped, and not suitable for their extended oil drain intervals without oil analysis for sure.

Can explain this a bit more? I've been on your web site with credit card in hand, and didn't think you'd benefit from my order. So I didn't order anything.

I'd like to give the 5w30 HDD oil a shot.

My opinion is that Amsoil does make some excellent products but the competition has become much greater, or so it seems. Take away Mobil 1, and Amsoil looks even more attractive but M1 is tough to beat for the $. I like Amsoil's 30wt A3 rated oils and their Noak %'s. That is why I sometimes lean towards Amsoil in certain situations. Amsoil is in the process of a major re-formulation. It was stated in their Action News Letter a month or two ago. Lets see what happens. They are taking a wait and see approach to the new GF-4 spec and that patience might pay off.
