serpentine belt change on the 2005 s60 involves easing the tensioner and swapping the belt. You need to have just the right size of ratchet and extension to reach the tensioner, then it's easy. With the tool in hand it's 3 minutes. my mother's civic of the same year--- I could not figure out how to get both belts off in the hour I had to work with.
They do seem a little complicated, but also feature-rich. The PCV system is dense. I'd really like to know why they chose that design. The cooling system has 8 hoses- albeit, 2 are for an air/oil heat exchanger, not found on every other vehicle out there, and some may have 2 more to heat the PCV line. There's a bunch of electronic modules-- those scare me but knock on wood, we haven't had any problems yet. But there's quality too - big coolant manifold on the back of the engine - looks like stainless steel, where other makes could be found using plastic in similar applications.
They are just built with a different philosophy.
