• “563 horsepower and 775 lb.-ft. of torque – the most torque of any F-150 ever… and a 0-60 mph time in the mid-4-second range when equipped with an extended-range battery

• “Along with a high-strength, military-grade aluminum alloy body, a new independent rear suspension delivers improved ride comfort, while an all-new frame uses the strongest steel ever put in an F-150 frame and supports a maximum 2,000-pound payload and up to 10,000-pound towing capacity.”

• “The commercial-oriented entry model starts at $39,974 MSRP before any federal or state tax credits, while the mid-series XLT model starts at $52,974 MSRP, offering additional comfort and technology.”

• “F-150 Lightning offers two options: a standard-range battery targeting 230 miles of EPA-estimated range and an extended-range battery targeting 300 miles of EPA-estimated range.”

Can it go more than 200 miles on the highway? Can it tow 8000 pounds more than 80 miles?
Just think how wonderful it will be when you are the driving Lightening around and having all the other people stare in awe,,, because YOU yes YOU are one of the special people that are saving the Earth. [I talked my self into buying one . ] It may not be the tool for towing heavy loads .

I really want to see how 'base' the base 'construction' model is. I don't need all the XLT/Lariat stuff, so if it's at least liveable, I'm intrigued. Mainly for the wife to drive back and forth to whatever she's doing that day.

Agree. $39k msrp really isn’t that bad for a legit truck, considering just how expensive any of them are... the 230 mile range is pretty poor for any practical use, and it’s probably a fairly large battery to get that range at all... given how inefficient trucks are. But at the price point it is intriguing...

Agree. But for what my wife and really I would use it for, which is getting back and forth to work and hauling house stuff on weekends (Really, what probably 60%+ of people actually use a truck for) it is intriguing. Plug it in every night or better yet, at work, and let it trickle charge. You're never going to tow anything serious with batteries, let's face it. Unless some new battery tech comes along that is many orders of magnitude better, you're going to either be burning something or using liquid fuel, so that's not what this truck is for. (or any of them)

Just like most people that drive trucks would really be happier with something like a Ridgeline but won't because, well, they just have to have a body on frame truck for some reason. I think this would really fit the bill for those people. Shopping malls are going to be stacked with them.

With all the tax incentives, I'd say sign me up (well, if I were looking for something new).

Looking at the specs a bit more, this thing is pretty decent in the lowest trim. I’d never pay a premium for the higher trims though.

But I think with 775 ft-lb, the writing is on the wall... the big money trucks where people are willing to shell out a ton, the 2500/3500 diesel trucks... will soon get a diesel electric or diesel hybrid power train. Thise trucks will have the range, the staying power, and even with smaller, simpler diesels, will be able to claim massive torque numbers (1500ft-lb+) with fewer emissions concerns, allowing the torque wars to continue.

TBD if it’s a hybrid with a traditional 2wd diesel power train and an electric front power train, making it a 4x4.... or essentially a locomotive power train in miniature size and and with a battery. IMO the 7.3L big block ga$$er could also be a play at >1000 ft lb with relative simplicity compared to the diesel emissions system.

Series drive turbine electric plug-in hybrid. Run it on anything you like for the most part. Should be able to get enough power out of a small turbine to generate enough electricity to move the truck/trailer with 0 battery.
