I'm putting a new fuel hose and nozzle on our 500 gallon off-road diesel tank. The hose, nozzle and pump outlet are 3/4 NPT, do I need to apply a sealant of any kind or will the fittings seal fine without it?

Yes, you need a sealant. Yellow teflon tape will be fine. Not white.

P.S. "Thats only if its taper threaded"

re read, 3/4 npt= use yellow Teflon tape

Use Rectorseal Tru-Blu if you can find it.

or Permatex Teflon thread sealant.

They always use some kind of liquid sealant on the pumps at the gas station. Looks white or grey looking usually

Ok so in true "slick deal" fashion I just ordered the Rectorseal Tru-Blu.

This is fine for water use right?
for $2.13 (2.60*.82)seems handy for those jobs that teflon tape fails bad on.

Could have used this when I replumbed the pipes for my Grandma's well pump and tank replacement
and her bathroom pipe stub replacements.

Ended up using a combination of tape and pipe dope for the 15-20 fittings .. was time consuming.

???? color has nothing to do with pipe size.

Nope it sure doesn't. National pipe thread needs a sealant. That was my point. Diesel does require a color for Teflon though. Yellow.

I actually used white teflon tape last night because I needed to use it and that's all I had. I'll swap it out one day when it warms up. Thanks for the replies.

Color has nothing to do with what's in the pipe. Use a decent quality tape instead of the cheap junk.

I would beg to differ. Yellow Teflon tape is for diesel, oil, natural, or propane gas. Might have use for other fluids, but white Teflon is not recommended for the fluids I listed.
