Hey guys- I am going to be selling my Hyundai Elantra and will have several OE oil filters left over. I was wondering if the OE Hyundai and OE Honda filters are similar enough in their specs to interchange? I know the NAPA/Wix filter lookup calls for the same filter on both applications- a 51334/1334, so I'm sure they aren't that dissimilar, but it's always nice to hear from the guys that know more than I do.

I've been using Hyundai oil filters on my 03 CRV for the past 50,000 miles and will continue using them. I have no complaints or problems as a result of the Hyundai oil filter.

Very good filters, I would use them.

Strictly considering what is known about the efficiency specs, the OEM H/K filter at least as good or better than the Honda OEM filter. So 'if' that is a consideration no problem there.

H/K oem construction pretty stout and uses a silicone adbv.

So all things considered, I'd think no problem using the H/K oem on said Accord.

IIRC, the Hyundai OE covers a wider range of bypass specs that the Honda OEM would fall into. (I want to say about 9-14 vs. the Honda's 12?)

Either way, the differences are so small, it won't matter.

Do you have the room since it'll have a larger diameter?

I haven't looked yet, but I hope so!

Thanks for the bit about the by-pass spec!

The OP's 2000 Accord spec size is the same the H/K oem size. Starting 2001-2002 Honda converted majority over to the 7317/14610/57356 size used today. But up until ~2008 the larger 14459/51334/(3593a/9688) still fit.

And, I wouldn't be concerned about the small difference in bypass range spec. In fact, I'd have no issue running said H/K oem on the 2001 Civic I maintain and purchased new. And the 01 Civic specs the smaller filter, but even the dealer used/sold the larger Honda OEM for awhile after the new spec size.

Hi, I am trying to avoid starting a new thread here. I have a case of the Hyundai. .....35503 filters and was hoping I could use them on my 2013 civic with the r18 motor. I have a few 7317 ultras and a puro classic 14610, but was hoping to go exclusively with the Hyundai filters afterwards if possible. Anyone try this? Thank you.

Hi Skunked. The larger 14459/3593a/9688/(5/1334 wix/ng), the Hyundai equivalents fit most Hondas up to ~2007, even those calling for the 7317/14610/57356 size. At 2008 on Accords the engine design and filter location changed, and those filters no longer fit the larger filter.

Googling your 13 Civic 9th Gen, and checking youtube and several other sites and looks like the same thing also now applies to the Civic. So, you can check to confirm but I'm fairly confident that unfortunately the Hyundai/Kia spin on will not fit your Civic because of it's wider diameter.

Sayjac, I really do appreciate the time you took to do the research and reply to my question! You are the best! Bummer to hear the answer though, because it would've been awesome to have just one filter to keep stocked.
