Every dealer/make/model I've ever dealt with will provide a loaner/rental provided the vehicle is still under factory warranty and it needs to be kept over night. Pretty much all of them now use rental companies, not something off the lot.

If neither of the above are true, no rental for you.

Any car we have brought to a dealer for warranty work they have given us a loaner. Might just be our area. Lexus and BMW will come pick up our car and drop off a loaner w/out additional charge - even for an oil change.

What surprises me is that in our case they always give us a base model small car. At infiniti I told them that we were interested in buying a new M56, and that they should let us borrow an 'M' while the FX was being looked at. They said to talk to sales.

BMW gives us a white base 328i consistently, infiniti a white G37 base model.

My local Hyundai dealer did NOT offer a loaner for the days they had our 2009 Sonata under warranty. The last time I couldn't arrange drop-off and pick-up with my wife so I asked them to help since I live only four miles away from them. They were kind enough to have their lot boy take me home, he was a nicer man than the service people.

Well I have a very specific counter-point to that...

When my wife and I bought our 1993 Vision TSi (Dodge Intrepid/Chrysler Concorde sibling for those who don't recall it) a co-worker bought a new Prelude at the same time... Literally within days of our purchase. Three power steering pumps, two power steering racks, and one transmission later, he traded in the Prelude. At that point, we'd had one fuel-rail TSB performed on the Eagle's Chrysler 3.5, and then we kept it another 10 years beyond *that*. Ultimately it was one of the best vehicles I've ever owned, nevermind it being a first-year model of a brand new platform, engine, and transmission.

Granted, plenty of people had trouble with Vision/Concorde/Intrepids, too. I'm not saying they were perfect, and we had to replace the transmission at only 150,000 miles in ours which annoyed me greatly. What I am saying is that Honda and Toyota were *never* as perfect as people nostalgically make them out to be today. Mechanical things break. Always have, always will.

And no offense to the original poster, but what's up with the EXPECATION that you get a loaner car every time something breaks? If its under warranty and needs to be in the shop more than a couple of days, well yes. But a day or two? I would NEVER have expected a loaner car for mine being down a day or two 30 years ago.

Frankly I think that $tealership he was going to service for was actually going to keep the HondaCare factory payment for the loaner car, that the customer was/is entitled to...THEY ARE PROBABLY CROOKS!

Again there is a reason why they call them "$tealerships".

My apologies to the 1% of those stores that have honest, competent service and sales personnel the other 99% of those jackals give your business a horrible reputation.

Just got a call from the Honda dealership. The Ody is fixed! It ended up that the lane departure warning camera up near the rear view mirror failed. All fixed under warranty, rental car under HondaCare.

Moral of the story if you buy a Honda... get the extended warranty.

Actually I think the moral of the story is to buy a car without a "lane departure warning camera". When did we start needing those?

I like the blind spot warning system a lot.

The lane departure I would only use on a long trip as well as adaptive cruise control.

Personally, it annoys the you-know-what out of me. I turn it off whenever I drive it.

But the wife loves it, so what is a guy going to do?

It's no doubt useful, if it had no purpose it wouldn't be there. But it's always those things that break, right? And can be quite expensive to replace or repair.

My friend's Sienna (much newer than mine) has a laser cruise control. The speed sensor is down low and gets hit by a rock occasionally. When the sensor glass breaks it necessitates replacement of the entire sensor assembly at the tune of around $1200. The whole idea that cruise control has gotten to the point that it needs a $1200 sensor is just crazy to me.

I dunno, I don't even like the key-fob "keys" they use for cars these days. When my cars finally die off and I have to buy a new one, I'm afraid of what I'm going to have to put up with.

I don't understand why a bad camera would cause all the symptoms you had. Push button start being temperamental, inoperative gauges all resulting from a camera?

It should just disable the LDW system and illuminate that light.

No clue, I had the same thought. I'll check and see if anything else was done on the work order when I get home tonight. I talked to my wife and all seems well, though, so whatever was going on they fixed it!

It lets you not pay attention to driving, IE update facebook or text than warns you before you drift into the 18 wheeler in the next lane.
