Hi,
Here is the OCI I came up with for a Wadsworth, Ohio climate.
I used what I learned here and I used some of Spyder's ""mad scientist" thinking LOL. Thanks to everyone for there expertise.

Cars are: 2001 Ford Focus Zetec 2.0 and 2000 Dodge Dakota 3.9. Comments welcome.

OCI

Dec Jan*Feb Mar = (6,000 Miles)
Royal Purple Full Synthetic Oil

Apr May*Jun Jul Aug = (7,500 Miles)
Royal Purple Full Synthetic Oil

Sept Oct Nov = (4,500 Miles Miles) Dino/ Moly Additive

*= Filter Change / 3,000 Miles.

Interesting-why not use the syn year-round with a quality oil filter that doesn't need changed every 3K? With RP being so expensive, wouldn't it be cheaper to use a M1, Amsoil, or even a Pure One & just change everything at once?

Why are you changing your filters so often? They actually become more efficient the longer you leave them in, so changing them in between oil changes is not only a waste of time and money, but it is actually hurting your filter efficiency.

I understand your logic on using different seasonal OCIs, but I'd suggest you did a UOA to see how efficient it is. Otherwise, you're just guessing.

bullwinkle,
Good points. I just feel better changing a Motorcraft or Mopar (For example) twice than using one expensive filter. I wanted to try the Royal Purple and got it at a fair price.

slalom44-

I was posting to bullwinkle, before your comments came in. I will also take your suggestions into consideration.

I'd agree with going with the synthetic all the time.

Wondering if you're basing the OCI on what type of driving you're actually doing, the climate, or simply mileage in between? If it's mileage based you could just simplify the strategy and change based on that. If it's based on climate then you know best what temperatures to expect.

I usually have to add top off oil about 3,000 miles anyway, so thought why not change filter and have even more oil for the remaining interval.
fredjacksonsan, Yes it is climate based. Dec to March cold more idling so 6,000. April to August hotter but less idling so 7,500. Sept to Nov in-between so dino with Moly add (I wanted to try Moly anyway).
I guess 6 months /9,000 with the Royal Purple and 1 filter change would work, just thought this would be better for the engines as these are older cars.
I did not want to use the Purple for only 4,500 and wanted to try the Moly, so that is where the thought of using dino came into play.
Thanks for the suggestions so far everyone!

No,man. Use the synthetic oil year round, particularly,in the Winter. Change the filter only when you change the oil. I would consider only 2 oil changes per year. Consider a Ford Racing filter for the Ford and an M1 filter for the Dodge.

JGR,

I totally agree with the others! You should just use a synthetic year round and just go maybe every 6K OCI's along with a new filter. If you got RP for a good price then your fine but over here in California RP is extremly high synthetic oil to buy and you have aloot of other brands that offers the same protection as RP easy.

If you not sure about your OCI's based on your driving habits then consult your owners manual like I do. Some people go by mileage like I do and some by months.

Filter every 3K?
That's one thing to consider a change in thinking - go the full OCI term.
I'd use a MC filter for the Zetec - should be a FL400s [FL2005 discontinued].

For your 6-7.5k OCIs, a full synthetic is a good choice.

Lubro Moly? I love it! Give it a full does the first time [a full bottle], and a maintenance dose of 1/2 bottle after that.

RP? I hate it! Spectacular pricing for a 'yawn' oil.
