OCI Opinion For '12 Equinox

Wife's Equinox, In 5 months 'Nox went 1505 miles. Kept eye on dipstick oil color, very dark tea. Mostly short trips, so change it. Was going to go 2K, time/mileage bothered me. Drained out 5qts+28ozs. I had put in exactly 5qts before, so this was not a good thing. NO gas smell, but it is the 2.4 D.I. engine. Oil was black and came out almost like water thin, but it was changed HOT. No oil labs, wish I would have.
Mobil1 5W30 and Purolator Synthetic oil filter used, before and this time.
1. OK on oil/filter combo???
2. Next time, how long on time?
3. Basically miles don't count.

Oil is a fine choice as far as filter no more miles than she is going the Purolator Pureone would save a little money and have greater efficiency. I say try 5 months this time around also but send a used oil analysis sample in.

What was the percentage on the OLM?

Thanks for reminding me.........77%. I have not had ECU reflashed per GM on their new OLM settings.

Mobil 1 and Purolator Synthetic is a great combination. I love the textured grip!

Get the reflash, then go by the OLM.

Get the reflash done, try Maxlife, do an OLM to 0% run and then a used oil analysis.
That will tell you how well an oil that has been shown to hold up well to fuel dilution will do in this engine.

If Maxlife proves unequal to the demands of this DI engine, I'd give either G-Oil or RLI a go.
These ester based oils seem to deal well with fuel dilution very well, and G-Oil would be a lower cost first resort.
If you're really concerned about this engine, I'd try an oil shown to deal with fuel dilution, not M1.
A 1505 mile OCI is absurd.
I doubt that you'd want to continue this for the years that you'll own this crossover.
You might try driving the thing more, since that might allow it to spend more time fully warm and might reduce the apparent fuel dilution.

12/18/12 to 05/05/13, That's how long it took for 1505. I even drove it to work (23 miles oneway) 5-6 times. This will be ours for along time, hopefully, so want to keep engine in best shape I can. I'm not really concerned with long mileage OCI's as I am keeping engine clean and new inside.
Maxlife, that's going in next time after reading how good it holds up to fuel dilution. Thanks!!!

6 months in a known fuel-diluting engine sounds okay in my book, regardless of mileage. Fuel isn't oil.

Dealer reflashed the OLM today. I asked if any reflashes for cold start were available, no. They found no stored codes in ECU on mis-fires or too thin oil. We'll see how new OLM works with how it gets driven.

Just use any dexos1 5w30 with any filter - go by the OLM and it will be fine.
