OCI on 95 Corolla with Maxlife blend

95 Corolla with 158K miles. I bought it 6 months ago, drove it 3k miles and changed the oil to Mobil 1. It did not use any oil until I changed it to Mobil 1, and it used almost a quart in 4K miles..

Just changed to Maxlife blend today. I'm thinking that I am going to run it about 5k....vehicle sees about 75 percent highway use and frequent full throttle applications since it's so slowAlso hoping it stops using oil since I've dumped the Mobil 1.

Gutless little turds ain't they! But they are super dependable. I have a 94; mine burns way more oil than yours.

5K all highway would be easy for Maxlife.

The "fact" that engines burn or consume oil when switching brands is an often discussed topic on this site. Let us know how the Maxlife Syn blend works out for the Corolla.

Typical! Mobil 1 is always doing that to people's cars on this board; I'm thinking because Mobil 1 acts like a much thinner oil than it really is. No one has mentioned an increase in consumption with Mobil 1's High Mileage oils though.


Which viscosity grade of Maxlife did you go with?-?-?

Yeah I know what you mean. I burned right away(within first 500-1000 miles) using both PP and M1. Conversely, I didn't use anything initially during my MC OCI and now that I'm using another CP product, I bet I stop using oil so I know what you mean by Mobil 1 "using oil"! Check this out..remember that wear problem associated with FE with M1?..

it's funny but I am using the same viscosity oil in this CP and the previous MC and those oils used nothing initially and then used a scant few ounces but only towards the end of the OCI. I just gotta remember to swap out the MC a bit earlier then my MMS/OLM tells me to at around 4.5 which is the point(approx) where it starting losing oil probably indicating it's anti-wear additives could be depleting.. I think 4-4.5k is a good OCI with this blend.

That's not bad consumption. I have a '94 Prizm (same 4A-FE engine) with 214K on the clock and use a quart of oil every 2500 miles.

So if you are using a quart every 4000 miles, then you are doing well.

Mine gets the same sort of driving, but a lot less now. I was averaging 2000+ miles/month, and that has dropped to about 1400 miles/month over the last 6 months, and about 1200 miles/month over the past 3 months. So lots of highway driving.

FWIW, I came up on my time limit instead of the mileage limit on my 4 mo, 5K mile OCI I'm using for the first time ever in this car. I had done 6 mo and 10K miles on synthetic, hitting 10K before 6 mo and then switched to 4mo or 5K miles on conventional oils, hitting 5K miles in about 2-3 months.

Anyway, too much detail. Just check the oil when you fuel up and "enjoy" your Corolla.
