OCI for Mobil 5000

I'm always leary of running a dino oil that long, unless I'm doing a long, long highway trip.

I only run Mobil 1 for 6000 mi.

If I were to use it, I'd go 4k and get a UOA to see how much more life it had.

So in other words, you only feel that ANY dino is good for only 4000 miles as a general rule?

I'm a short oil user myself. I think the longest I could take Mobil 1 or Castrol Syntec would be 7500. As for a Synthetic Blend - I'd feel comfortable at 5,000. A UOA will tell you whether or not the oil could go longer or whether or not it ran its course.

I think drewjp's advice is good - do a short OCI and get a UOA to see how far it could have gone. Short oci = 3-5k in my opinion.

But it says on Mobil's website they guarantee it. Why bother with the UOA.. They guarantee it.

Now anyone of you who know me by now, know that I'm a 3mo/3k changer...but I'm bringing this up as a conversational piece.

They guarantee it for non-severe use.
I believe their EP oils have the same disclaimer.

A UOA is helpful regardless. Why not get a baseline for how your driving style and vehicle type affect the oil

Wow, then I'm sure you use Mobil 5000 right?

If you check Mobil's web site on the 5000, he could!

They state that 5000miles or whatever the MFG states for an OCI.

So in his Honda powered car, he could run it 10k. (I would not

, but would run it maybe 7k..)

On dino oil, I really don't care about what Mobil says about their product. Get an UOA done at about 3000, and see what it says, and go from there. If your application can take it to 5k, then do it, if not, don't. But, at least you will have comfort knowing that you can with an UOA.

In the northern states you should do 2mo/3000mi oci in fall-winter-spring, and don't waste your money on an UOA.

Then do a 5000mi interval in summer and get the UOA.
