It has lower NOACK

Other than that, it is still heavier than the 5w-30 at colder temps so....?

If you need better cold start-up flow, then yes, 10w-30 is obsolete, IMO.

I think the point you are trying to make is that it's not obsolete because there is a big difference in the noack values of those two oils with the 10-30 being much better?

Better than what? If you need better cold start flow than 10w40 then 10w30 is right back in the thick of things. It's all relative.

Castrol doesn't seem to think 10w30 is obsolete. Their brand new gold bottle Extended Performance offers an impressive 10w30.

What is impressive about it?

In which case, what is more important: having better cold start-up flow or lower Noack? Kind of hard to answer that one as it may depend on operating conditions as well as particular engine design.

You multigrade guys love your sludgy, varnished, dirty engine killing VII, eh?.
A 10w30 is a VERY nice moderate climate oil when formulated properly without the compromising vII.

That's a strawman and a half! My M5 engine is spotless running a multigrade its entire life. My old 302, which has likely lasted longer than any engine you've ever owned (based on your track record for killing engines
wink.gif
) is also spotless inside and has had pretty much every grade of M1 under the sun through it except 10w-30.

Most of them don't list it anymore.

Nor mine. I like posts were the user is one of the very few that has problems. Then the same users has the same problems over and over with different sets of circumstances and variables. Either someone has some of the worst luck ever or something else just is not right.

If you need better cold pumping performance, then 10W-30 isn't an appropriate oil selection for your needs...doesn't make the grade obsolete.

Or as someone here posted...Resource-conserving (shearing) girly oil.

I was just asking the question to start a discussion.

The NOACK of the 10W30 is so impressive.

The point I was trying to make is that 5w-30 can serve all the temperature ranges that a 10w-30 can and then some.
