Exotic?? Don't think, so they are about the cheapest syn oil you can find on the shelves here. I use it in my BMW currently for Auto-Rx cleaning regime as it contains no ester or PAO. It's just your common old Group III syn and priced accordingly.

I noticed that it says "Shell Helix Ultra is the only oil recommended by Ferarri"

I am just wondering if you are supposed to think that since Ferarri use's it, it must be great? I don't know much about Ferarri's reliability vs their high performance engines. But It seems like any time you visit an exotic dealer, the service is loaded up with high performance Italian and other exotic cars. Are they as reliable as a normal car? or more like a race car that always needs work. Triumph's and MG's were about as great as they came when it was about road racing small cars back in the 60's and what not. And as cool as they were, they were horrible!


Think of it like this.. say Kia or Hyundai years ago, they bragged about inexpensive cars with good mileage and what not. So back in 1995, if Valvoline or anyone else said "The only oil recommended by Kia" wouldn't you stay away from it? I guess what I am saying is that just because a car company is good at doing something, it sure doesn't mean that there cars are good at everything....

so just a thought....

Ferrari today is making 500hp at over 8k rpm from only 4.3L! It is probably the most stressed engine produced today and raced at clubs whose members do not tolerate failure.

I've read on here Rotella T Synthetic 5w40 uses this as it's base oil.

noi8u - Shell Helix Ultra lubricants are excellent products with a great formulation and a long history!

I used them in my Porsche & MGB engines for some years - in both 5W-40 and 15W-50 viscosities. The 15W-50 version was discontinued here about 2002. It is still available in Europe

Some used oil analysis - about 4 - from one of my Porsche 928s will be in the used oil analysis Forum for the 5W-40 viscosity

Shell have a long history of producing first quality synthetic automotive lubricants

Last three 5-litre jug of Helix Ultra 5W40 purchased were A$55.95, A458.95 and A$59.95 all much cheaper than M1 or Castrol Edge (Edge cheaper than M1). Just a straight Group III basestock oil. The easiest to find ACEA A3,B3 and LL01 spec oil without ester or PAO I could find for RX cleaning.
