2016 CMax Hybrid. Code P013A indicates the Bank 1, Sensor 2 O2 responding slower than required rich to lean for a predetermined period of time. Sensor 2? Is that the one after the catalytic? This car would only have 2 sensors? Is the sensor is it just worn out, our is something else causing it to go bad?

How many miles? I have never had to replace a down stream sensor. I generally replace my upstream sensors proactively at the 70-90k mark.

It's usually a heater issue, but being after the cat it should read rich unless you are coasting or the engine is off. Can you check it does that? It really only monitors if the cat is working

This is the one behind the cat, make sure there are no exhaust leaks. Any other codes?

Heater issue? Can you explain. You mean the passenger compartment heater or something else? Being a hybrid the engine is not always running. Not sure how to check if it is running rich. 83,000 miles.

The heater built into the O2 sensor, if that had an issue you would probably get a P0141. Seeing as the NTK sensor is only $29 it is reasonable to put one in without going much further with the diagnostics.

the o2 sensor heater. it's likely to have 4 wires, 2 of which are the heater circuit. I've not ever had any codes over heater issues in any car I diagnosed though. They tend to go slowly.

The element fails quickly like any other electric heating element an actual hard failure of the element itself is almost instantaneous, it would be very rare to have an intermittent issue with this type of element but a wiring circuit fault can cause issues even intermittent ones and trip heater codes, I have seen quite a few codes for it over the years.

What do you mean by “heater issue”?

not heating enough, making the sensor sluggish in it's reactions. Most I've seen was a slight rise in heater element resistance, resulting in less current and less heater power

No other codes. First time ever to display a code.
I know this is a super old thread, but was just curious if you ever found a solution.

I have a 2013 C-Max, have the same code. I already swapped out the rear sensor with an NTN from RockAuto, but the code has come back. I'm wondering if there is an exhaust leak somewhere up where I cannot see it. Garage is telling me its a bad cat, but I would have guessed I would get a different code for that one.....
