(Apologies if this has already been discussed. I searched and did not see evidence that it had.)

The NY Times recently wrote about something near and dear to BITOGers' hearts. Mentions Blackstone Labs. (I talked with someone at Blackstone, and as a result of this article, they've increased their staff from 10 to 14 people as a result of all the new business.)

An engine in good condition with a properly functioning thermostadt can easily exceed the 3000 mi. oci. A worn engine rapidly loads the oil with soot and could force an oil change at 3000 mi. or before.Does anyone disagree?

“By this time next year, every Jiffy Lube will do it,” said Rick Altizer, president of Jiffy Lube International."

Has [censored] frozen over already? I thought we had a couple more years...

The quickie oil change companies owners are starting to cry the blues with GM's new Dexos1 oil spec. It is better oil, syn-blend or better base needed to meet spec, more expensive, longer lived, and required in 2011 GM gasoline engines. The oil life monitors will be recalibrated for this new oil. The quickie-lube shops cannot sell this better oil at their old price, and they cannot continue to scam customers into 3k/3mo oil changes with this more expensive, better oil.
