I got this out "ok" but we all know stabbing a manual back in is 10x more difficult.

I found the shifter housing/top cap wants to hit the body as you pull the trans back.

I tried elevating the front of the motor (CTD) but that didn't seem to help much. Maybe I just didn't go high enough with the nose of the motor?

Any tricks here? I gotta work out something because it definitely won't go back in the way I got it out. I'm almost tempted to see if I can bend the body up a little, but that will only help AFTER the input shaft is already stabbed into place, which is the hardest part of course

I can't tell from the pics nor do i have working knowledge of that transmission, can the shift tower be removed?
No, not practically to then be installed later. But it sounds like I just need to tip the nose of the motor up a lot more and I should be fine. The Cummins is just heavy ;)

Waiting on parts, 5th really did a number on itself. Not uncommon on the 4500 but the smaller mainshaft gear slid back, destroyed the countershaft gear and was munching on the alloy shift fork

Common issue on the 4500s. And why I insisted on the NV5600 when I bought mine.

This is the best article I know of concerning the failure and remedy.

So this one had previously been "fixed" -- maybe designed by Pfizer 'cause it's so "safe and effective" -- with the split nut that then allegedly gets pinched by a TINY Torx head bolt.

Now, why anyone would think that a nut that is supposed to get torqued to ~300 ft lbs could be held squeezed (not a set screw) by a bolt that looks to me like 8-32 (I'm only guessing, have not verified).....well, it defies explanation (school buses are yellow!!!)

Andrew at Long Range Gear has a good series of vids, and he says every time this style nut rolls in to his shop, it's loose. This was my experience.

Torx head remnant, partying in the bottom of the case with the rest of the shrapnel:

I've got the full spline main shaft and nut with three set screws from Allstate. Just waiting on other stuff.
